It's a shame that it takes a disaster like this to make us realize just how blessed we are... :(

It is also a shame that it takes an American disaster for us to realise how bad natural disasteres really are.

As is often the case, it is not real until it hits home.

It doesn't matter where the disaster is, it is always bad. I think we just feel it more when people we know and love are involved.

And you're right, it is sad.

I try to pray for people like I was going through what they are. It makes it so much more real to me.

    Good Morning everyone.

It's been kinda busy around here the last few days, so I've not been checking as much. I think I've got things settled a bit so today should be quieter, EXCEPT, the housework. Honestly, I don't understand how a house can go from clean to dirty in the space of 3 days time. I can't complain though, at least I have a house to clean.

T parents are still powerless, so they'll be up sometime later today. I'm hoping today isn't as hot as yesterday for them. It's been pleasant this morning. Yesterday the heat was miserable and I can only imagine how the folks further south suffered.

Ya'll have a good day. I'm going to get started finding the livingroom floor!

    MK..that's good news!

I've got to go out and pull up the stakes out of the garden, and then try to get some of the garbage out of the way that the neighbors let fly into our yard. I AM going to try and push mow some today. Don't know how much will actually get done, but some will.
Viv said no...but I'm saying I have to. It has to be done. If necessary, though, I will have the asst pastor at the church come and do it with his bush hog!

    Good Morning, everyone!

I think I need to take a break from watching the television...pictures of all the devastation.

At least I can take a break, I feel so sorry for those people who have nothing and I'm sure it seems so hopeless. There are those who can't find their loved ones and may never know what happened to them. With the evacuations, even if they are alive, they may get separated. The ones who need to know what is happening and hear the President's encouraging message, can't hear it.

Mk, Glad that T's Parents have power.

AVL, stay in that house and listen to Viv. What good is a mowed yard to her if you are sick!

We just returned from the funeral of an 83 year old church member who has been in a rest home for at least five years. Ed didn't tell me that it was part of my "job' to attend funerals of people I had never met. It is one of his ministries to attend funerals. I don't have to play for as many funerals as I used to as some are going with recorded music. I'm glad I'm not depending on that income.

I think some are going with recorded music as they only have to pay the sound tech and not a soloist and musician.

Well, I think I'll try to find something to cheer me up. I am praying for all the people affected by this horrible storm. May God lead all our leaders to ease the burden of these people.

Too late, Thankful. Just call me stupid...guess I'll never learn. I mowed a part of the back and side yard and the garden down. But, like someone who has a thick head, I kept on going even after I started wheezing! I cut the lawn mower off, grabbed my fast acting inhaler from my pocket and puffed away and headed towards the house and went inside. I drank some Gatorade, and then went back out...duh..hello! You just came in because of a small asthma attack. I went out and finished mowing down the garden and a path to the garage, wheezing all the way, using the inhaler again...finally got the strength and breath to put the lawn mower, gas can and funnel in the garage, grabbed my cane and headed towards the front door and went in, and around to the button and closed the garage! I had to give myself a breathing treatment, and am probably going to have to give myself several more today.

Why do I have such a hard time asking people for help? I mean, when I get the riding mower back, I won't have a problem. But, why can't I find it easy to ask for help? Why do I feel like I have to do it myself all of the time...even knowing I can't? Does it diminish my worth as a person? I don't know....just pride I guess. I know only one of my neighbors knows that I'm disabled. The two new families who moved in don't. I don't think they need to know either. But, they do know I walk with a cane, have a lot of medical supplies delivered, etc. They MIGHT know! LOL ;)

Well, I'm not able to breath again, so I guess it's time for another treatment! Talk with ya'll later!

Ask for help T. Give someone a chance to serve.

I agree, Roger. There are a lot of people who have a servants heart, but they have to know they are needed.

Tony, just like you don't like to ask for help, some people don't want to feel like they are butting in unless you DO ask for help - or at least let it be known there is a need...

We had the opposite problem with the roof. We asked for help but didn't get any so we ended up doing it ourselves (my disabled daughter, hubby recovering from surgery, 11-year-old grandson, and myself - too old) and taking over a week to get a small roof done. That is why the carpet is ruined and the ceiling and flooring may have to be replaced.

I don't know which is worse. Not asking for help or asking and not receiving.

Sue, I know how you feel. I've kept up on most of the lawn stuff since the "old church" did it before when we were gone for Viv's mom's funeral. But, with the heat so bad and the rain of the last few days, I just couldn't and it now looks like a jungle! Though I believe push mowing is good exercise, I believe that it's not feasible for me now.

I think asking for help and not receiving it, or receiving it from someone who grumbles is really terrible!

I think I WILL ask. I don't have much choice until we get the riding mower to the co-op to be repaired.

Tony, why don't you try putting it in the announcements at your church about needing help? I bet you'll get some willing volunteers that way. Alot of us hate asking for help, I know I do.

Hope everyone has a good day!

If I was in Huntsville Tony I would drive up and cut it for you ... if you kept the ice tea and lemonade flowing .

Rachel, I might just do that. ;)

You know, Jim, Vivian and I have several friends at church who raise goats. We've definitely considered it and may do so very soon. We want to get the fencing for the yard first, and that is going to cost around $2,500. The benefits would be great...goat milk, goat cheese, and the lawn "mowed" by them thar critters! ;)

Tony, I know what you mean. I don't like to ask for help either, but my Sunday School Teacher reminds me that I am depriving someone of a blessing when I don't ask for help.

Further, like Sue said, I am willing to help others, but I like to know what they need.

Now, don't feel bad anyone...I left here to go to the Craft Mall to put up a sign. I'm giving 10% for the holiday weekend and I have given some people 10% off cards, so they will get 20% off.

My plan was to go to the mall, pick up my check and go to the bank. Well, I decided to go to the drug store and then thought, I had better go to the grocery store, Holiday weekend coming up and all, home football game Saturday (we always stay home on those days). I even sat in a hot car and made out the deposit, etc. Guess what when I got home, there in the car seat was the deposit. I just drove right past that bank without remembering that it was there.

So don't beat yourself up about mowing when you shouldn't. What has happened to my memory?

Well at least we have food, I think

I guess when I run out of gas, I will remember to plan my trips more carefully...That's not right, I did plan my trip. I just didn't follow the plan.

See you all later. Going to the bank again, I hope.

Hmmmm, something happened here today and I still can't see my livingroom floor!

Like Thankful, I didn't stick to the plan for the day. Instead of getting right up and cleaning, I figured the checkbook and paid bills. Then my neighbor called and invited me around for coffee and a chat. Then it was lunchtime. Then someone else called and for some reason that reminded me that I still had two cheerleader outfits to alter and they had to be DONE today. Got those done and while they were being picked up the inlaws came for a swim. visited with them for a bit and then it was time for karate, then supper. That's done so I'm going to attempt to do at least some of the housecleaning I should have gotten done earlier.

Good thing T works late on Thursdays!

Between riding my bicycle everyplace to save on gas (and get exercise) and starting back to work this week (and home schooling), I am tired...

I was suppose to get the results from my blood work today, but no one called. Hopefully, they will call tomorrow.

    Pleasant dreams all!

Ok, house is clean enough for T to come home!

Now I'm tired, but Precious has decided that a pair of her pants needs cutting off into capri's, tonight. It's only ten o'clock, so I guess I'll find something to watch on the box while I do the fixin' and then I'll head to bed.

We got some good news today. T's aunt who lives in Ocean Springs MS, found out today that she still has a house. She and her husband, daughter, sonIL, grandkid, great grandkid and a friend had come up to stay with Papa(T's grandfather, the one with alzheimer's) through the storm. It's been a hard week on them as Papa is at the stage now to where anything different in routine really sets him off and causes him to hallucinate and be even more confused than usual. They really needed to hear that their house appears to be okay. Daughter and SonIL went down today to check on things. Their own house is on Daulphin Island and was destroyed when Ivan came through. It appears that they also only had minor damage.

Off to hem pants, see ya tomorrow!
