Americans who consider themselves conservatives now outnumber Americans who consider themselves liberal by almost two to one, according to a new poll by the Washington Post and ABC News.
In the poll of 1,001 adults conducted between July 15-18, respondents were asked: “Would you say your views on most political matters are liberal, moderate, or conservative?”
Thirty-eight percent said they were conservative, while only 20% said they were liberal. Thirty-nine percent, meanwhile, said they were moderate.
The percentage of self-described conservatives has increased since President Barack Obama was inaugurated in January and the percentage of self-described liberals has diminished. A Washington Post poll conducted in mid-January, shortly before the inauguration, showed 32% saying they were conservative, 24% saying they were liberal and 42% saying they were moderates.

Who cares? These figures change everyday. America needs to be more moderate and less Conservative and less Liberal. America needs to come back to the middle. That what Your President is doing, bringing it back to the middle after the Wild West experience of W, Donald and Dick. I don't see any of them on the speakers tours, I wonder why. At least your President is his own man. Didn't need daddy to buy his way into Yale.

Saying that Obama is bringing the country back to the middle is like saying the cat is only storing the mice in his belly for safety. And Obama never represents me. He is the President but not my President. Marxism can never represent me.

RevMitchell, and I hope your not a Rev, because under the guise of calling your president a marxist, I smell a possible racist. You make it sound so. Give the man a chance, he just started in January, give the man a break, you should if you call yourself a Christian.

"But of course that is all that libbies have"

Rev, I have many close relatives in Florida, Texas and Michigan and have travelled extensivily down there. I can smell a cottonmouth in the swamp while eating rattler burgers that my cousin in Fort Worth gave me. -

So I disagree with Obama and I am from the south is that your basis for the charge of racism? Is that really the extent of it? I do not know what "Coservatives" in Canada are like but I have seen nothing you have posted that remotely resembles an actual conservative. -
Rev, let me clarify, your statement sounded racist.

It fails to clarify little. On what basis did my statement sound racist to you? break my words down so as to present the words and their context that would leave a reasonable person with the idea that I am racist. -

Have you ever read Marx?
Do you know Marx's first name? -
Sometimes Rev, you sound as silly as those crazy "birthers!" Oh, wait a minute, you are a birther. Never mind. -

Not sure how you define "birther" but I have not drawn any conclusion one way or the other about Obama's BC. -
In my opinion a conservative is:
- Pro-life all the time, period, no questions asked.
- Pro-small, limited, federal government.
- An isolationist. That is, a true conservative does not support the use of the United States military for any mission that does not directly involve United States national security. Thus, no nation building.
- A person who wants the federal government to respect the rights of states to make their own laws on issues that do not fall under the federal government's constitutional powers.
- A person who wants all government to stay out of the private lives of law abiding citizens.
- Consistent. If something is wrong for a Democrat it is equally as wrong for a Republican.
- Independent. Not dedicated to either political party.
Many of your professing conservatives fail on numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7.
Just my opinion. -
-
I think they have a different definition of conservative. -
-
He is just wrong on his political views. -
I suspect that the count is warped by the fact that conservatives are usually proud of it and don't mind claiming it.
OTOH Liberals are ashamed of being what they are and won't publicly admit it.
