I suppose someday there will be a vaccine for this. Ebola has a vaccine and treatment now. But it is very deadly and Is hard to catch, you must have direct exposure, AFAIK, it is not airborne.

Since old people tend to die, and younger live, I think it means younger people have better functioning immune systems. I have read young children do not die and do much better than adults.

Another probable outcome, this virus will be always around now, just another cold or flu like virus. And it has already mutated at least once, there is an L and an S strain, one is more deadly than the other. that is why you have no lasting immunity to a cold, it mutates.

Scientists say they've identified 2 strains of COVID-19

Not all of the time though, as I know 2 people who really had had it bad with Crones, as each of them were diagnosed while in teens, and one needed surgery on it. I came down with it at 40, so my immune system much stronger than theirs was!

MANY people smoke in China and you know that ruins your lungs. It is likely why many more have died than elsewhere. People who die cant breath due to the pneumonia they get, or the disease shuts down their kidneys. The smoking thing is a major contributing factor.

    Smoking in China
is prevalent, as the People's Republic of China is the world's largest consumer and producer of tobacco:[1] there are 350 million Chinese smokers,[1] and China produces 42% of the world's cigarettes.[1] The China National Tobacco Corporation (中国烟草总公司 Zhōngguó Yāncǎo Zǒnggōngsī) is by sales the largest single manufacturer of tobacco products in the world and boasts a monopoly in Mainland China generating between 7 and 10% of government revenue.[2] Within the Chinese guanxi system, tobacco is still a ubiquitous gift acceptable on any occasion, particularly outside urban areas. Tobacco control legislation does exist, but public enforcement is rare to non-existent outside the most highly internationalized cities, such as Shanghai and Beijing. Outside the mainland however, enforcement is strong in the Hong Kong special administrative region. Furthermore, outside the largest cities in China, smoking is considered socially acceptable anywhere at any time, even if it is technically illegal.

I'm more concerned about the way people react to this, than I am the actual virus. Had my mom buy us (a little) extra supplies just in case people start panicking and buying the stores out.
Also, it could be bad for immunocompromised people.....I don't think I'm majorly immunocompromised, at least not at this point, but my diabetes does come with extra susceptibility to infections because hyperglycemia and such can weaken your immune system.

Also, third world countries could be utterly devastated by this.

Italy and its products are getting affected..
"Making things more complicated is a lack of knowledge about the virus's true risks and whether it is spread, for example, through exported goods.

Industry groups and policymakers have signaled incidents of importers of Italian goods in other EU countries seeking additional certification that the goods are virus-free.

The Coldiretti agricultural lobby on Wednesday said that “unjustified documentation” had been requested from importers of aged cheese in Greece, lettuce sent to Poland and fruit to Kuwait, while shipments of Italian-grown apples are blocked at the border with Ukraine.

Coldiretti also said its producers had reported "numerous cancellations without good reasons that struck an entire range of ‘Made in Italy’ foodstuffs, from wine to cured meats.’’....Virus outbreak hits weakened Italian economy where it hurts

My church sent out an email this past week outlining the measures being taken to deal with the problem.

The following measures are currently in place and have been for some time:
    • Weekly cleaning -- this includes wiping down surfaces and routine cleaning. At times, this happens 2-3 times per week.
    • We keep tissues, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes throughout the building.
    • A crew disinfects all the children's toys and play areas and the tables, chairs and countertops in the nursery and in sunday school rooms 2 & 3.
We are adding the following measures:

    • We are asking our guest groups to wipe down the areas they use and providing them with the products they need to do it.
    • In addition to the regular cleaning that we do, we will be giving more attention to handrails, doorknobs, lightswitchs, touchscreens and keyboards.
    • On Sunday mornings before you arrive, our staff will come through and sanitize all the frequent touch surfaces we can think of.
    • We have placed hand sanitizing lotion pumps at the Welcome Table, the SonCountry Desk, the EWH kitchen, the main kitchen, the main auditorium and the snack area. (It helps if you leave them in those locations and don't move them.)
    • We are asking all of our Sunday morning refreshment volunteers to wear gloves when they prepare our snacks and coffee.
    • Let's all follow my son ******’s example and move to fist bumping instead of hand shaking for awhile.

Sunlight kills corona virus and flu virus, it is partly why cold and flu have a cold and flu season, when in the winter, it is cold, sunlight is less intense, and people stay indoors surrounded by other people. The sun's uv light destroys the virus in a few seconds. A sneeze can extend from 3 to 5 feet, but outdoors in the sunlight a sneeze has a hard time spreading a functioning virus. This from an viral epidemiologist in an interview on whether it is safe to be outside in public. Your much worse off inside than outside in a crowd as in walking around. Why else do you suppose hospitals, nursing homes, cruise ships, conventions, handshakes, are all really good for spreading a virus around to many people. I would have to think crowded restaurants also have some risks, and your eating food prepared by someone who might be infected. The virus has to get in your mouth, eyes, nose for you to get sick. This is why they tell you not to touch your face.

Dr. Marc Siegel: Is the coronavirus seasonal?

More proof this will be seasonal. Warm humid air drops viral particles to the ground. Why would this corona virus be different than other corona virus, as they are basically the same shell on the outside. So far hot climates have few cases and cold climates have many. Since spring is almost here, the outlook should improve. Giving time for a vaccine or anti virals to be developed.

that refers just to the fact that many nations are now reporting a case of it officiacially, as world wide death sill around 3,000.compare that to 60,000 from influenza in just USA last year!

Well, I guess the media was a bit confused....

"A pandemic is defined as the "worldwide spread" of a new disease. Whereas, an outbreak is the occurrence of disease cases in excess of what's normally expected and an epidemic is more than a normal number cases of an illness, specific health-related behavior or other health-related events in a community or region, according to the World Health Organization.

In January, the WHO declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. CNN announced on Monday that it is using the term pandemic to describe the current coronavirus outbreak.

The last pandemic reported in the world was the H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009, which killed hundreds of thousands globally."...

Israel has implemented a 14-day isolation period for all foreign travelers.

That cancelled my pastor’s plan to travel there for a 12 day vacation with a small group of or church folk. Flight grounded!

Effectively killed tourism in Israel til this is over.

Saw an article quoting the CDC that people who are over 60 or who have chronic health conditions might need to consider staying at home "for a period"

Oh. And apparently they think it's arrived at the county next to mine.

China has stopped the virus by containment. It worked.
They also say they have a vaccine which will be ready in April.
    https://nypost.com/2020/03/10/coronavirus-vaccine-could-be-ready-by-april-chinese-officials-say/

Now in the US, Novavax also has one. Was watching an interview and they are confident it will work, but see rules say must go through a period of testing. He did say the SARS vaccine got approved in 6 months and it was effective for that.
Drugmaker says it is working on coronavirus vaccine

Shutting down things for a month is what they are trying to do to contain the virus. It could help a lot, because the virus will run its course in a little less than a month.
