What's Wal-Mart promoting this holiday season? The religious right's extreme ideology.
Just in time for Christmas, the religious right has released a violent video game in which born-again Christians aim to convert or kill those who don't adhere to their extreme ideology. Disturbingly, the game's apparent attempts at religious indoctrination are aimed at children and focus on violent, divisive, and hateful scenarios. While the religious right apparently has no problem pushing the product this holiday season, America's #1 video game seller should know better.
Take action now and urge Wal-Mart to stop selling religious violence this holiday season.

Christianity has its fringe element who, like the extremists in Islam, wish to convert by the sword.

The description sounded a little extreme and exaggerated to me.
When I found out it was Left Behind, I knew it would be an unintentionally funny and poorly made game.
And that is what it looks like.
I wouldn't say convert or kill is the premise of the game.
It sounds like the game designers had slightly nobler intents.
But conversion is the primary goal of the game.

MP,
Might I ask who in your opinion is amongst believers that are willing to murder in order to further the cause of Christ?

That sounds rather chilling when you write it that way, doesn't it?

Check out the link.
It did not say anything about any killing by the Christians, just that it was a horrible game.

Terry,
The response was MP's post concerning "the fringe element ... who wish to convert by the sword" and not to the game it's self.

Who released the game?
Name of company or person please.
I didn't see it in the source.
I looked it up.
I see no connection between "Left Behind Games" and any Christian organization or person, for that matter.
It appears their sole goal is to capitalize off of the popularity of the Left Behind book and movie series.
There doesn't appear to be any connection between the series and the game makers.

The front page of the Left Behind website is currently promoting the game.
LBG is a publicly traded company.

LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces is leading the way in this uncharted area with a brand new means of connecting gamers with instant access to famous artists and their music, such as Kutless, Audio Adrenalin, Sanctus Real, Jeremy Camp, and TobyMac.
"We're glad to have our names as a part of it," says Left Behind authors Dr. Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. "Here is a game we can heartily recommend," says Beverly LaHaye, Founder, Concerned Women for America.

Evidently from the posts - the game's promoters and supporters might.
But, are they believers if they promote violence?

A few laughs from the sweatervests might be worth the investment in the game.

Given the game's Christian devotion, your goal is not to wipe out the enemy as in a typical RTS game but to convert as many neutrals and baddies as possible by raising their spirit level. You seek out these people and directly target the ones you want to save with the recruit ability. If all goes well, he or she will soon be turned into a friend in either a Ned Flanders-like sweater ensemble or a sensible skirt and pumps.

So what.
It doesn't appear they are representing anyone but themselves in this business venture.
Where did the affiliation with the so called "religious right"
come from?
Who is making that allegation?
Here's a trial allegation , but just as phony:
Most athiests are liberals
Since there are Christians that are liberal, it naturally follows that whatever Ted Newdow endorses, Christian liberals also endorse.

It was to show that there are Christian organizations and people associated with the game.
LBG probably paid LaHaye and Jenkins to make use of the title, character names and story concept.
Aren't LaHaye and Jenkins right wing Christians?
LaHaye is right-wing from his political contributions since the Republican party was right wing when I last checked.
While I disagree with his dispensationalist theology, I wouldn't call him a non-Christian because of it.
LaHaye and Jenkins may not represent all of the religious right, but the dispensationalist theology found in Left Behind is the predominant eschatological view of the religious right.

Your allegations in your OP are inaccurate and scurrilous.
The "Religious Right"
encompasses a lot of people and organizations.
The few individuals that you mentioned that are supposedly members of the "Religious Right" are just that, individuals.
Being a Christian as well as a conservative, many people consider me a member of the "Religious Right" and I would have nothing to do with this venture and have no patience for the like of Jerry Falwell.
There are millions just like me.
Since you hate the "Religious Right" so much, I must conclude you are a liberal and as such,
one that supports the activities of many Godless organizations and business ventures.
What's your excuse?

So? There's been other games with a religious theme.

The Defcon site and the obligatory Wal-Mart bashing tipped you off, too?
I've actually played this game, it's been out for over a month now.
http://www.leftbehindgames.com/
It's VERY loosely-based on the book series, still haven't beat it yet, another real-time strategy game.

I think you need to reread this thread.
The OP was posted by Jarthur001.
The quoted portion of the OP was a call for action against Wal-mart from the site DefCon.
I wrote the third post in this thread that attempted to show that the allegations on the DefCon page were exaggerations and misrepresentations.
Not because the game doesn't represent the religious right, but because it isn't about "convert or kill".
Your post is funny.

Just curious.
Is there any killing in the game?
If so, what context is it in (ie who do you kill and when)?
