Curt Schilling explains why he's not in the HOF, whereas John Smoltz is in the HOF.
“I think he got in because of [Greg] Maddux and [Tom] Glavine. I think the fact that they won 14 straight pennants. I think his ‘Swiss army knife versatility,' which somebody said yesterday, I think he got a lot of accolades for that, I think he got a lot of recognition for that. He's a Hall of Famer,” Schilling said. “And I think the other big thing is that I think he's a Democrat and so I know that, as a Republican, that there's some people that really don't like that.”

Really, Curt? Because you're a Republican you don't make the Hall of Fame?
[You just know that if this was a ballplayer who happened to be a Democrat that was complaining that a Republican made it and he didn't that Rush would be all over it.]
It has nothing to do with the fact that you never won a Cy Young, you won 216 games over 3,261 innings pitched, ERA of 3.46, had 83 complete games, and you struck out 3,116 in 20 seasons.
Compare to Bert Blyleven, who got elected in 2011 after waiting 14 years (only had one year of eligibility left) He won 287 games over 4,970 inning pitched, ERA of 3.31, had 242 complete games, struck out 3,701 in 22 seasons.
Schilling got 39.2% of the votes, and a candidate needs 75% to get into the Hall.
Schilling's closest comps for other players are Kevin Brown, Bob Welch, Milt Pappas, and Orel Hershieser, none of whom are in the HOF.
Blyleven's closest comps for other players are Don Sutton, Gaylord Perry, Ferguson Jenkins, Robin Roberts, and Tom Seaver. All are in the HOF.
Really, Mr. Schilling do you want to play the victim card for not being in the Hall of Fame? Pathetic. Real classy.

Politics had nothing to do with it. It was because he is white.
Yes, I am being facetious.
Seriously, he is a whiner. -
Hope that he can be in the Hall one day! Nothing to do with race or politics.

Look at Jack Morris. He didn't make the HOF. He should be in before Schilling, IMO. -

Schilling's bloody sock IS in the hall. He just won't have a plaque in the shrine.
