WAUSAU, Wis. — A central Wisconsin man accused of killing his 11-year-old daughter by praying instead of seeking medical care was found guilty Saturday of second-degree reckless homicide.

Dale Neumann, 47, was convicted in the March 23, 2008, death of his daughter, Madeline, from undiagnosed diabetes. Prosecutors contended he should have rushed the girl to a hospital because she couldn't walk, talk, eat or drink. Instead, Madeline died on the floor of the family's rural Weston home as people surrounded her and prayed.

This is where Hillary's "village" comes in. The state should have taken the girl into protective medical custody. Children need to be protected from parents' bizarre beliefs in matters like this. Praying is fine...but not denying the benefits of lifesaving medical treatment.

There is no efficient way to stop these incidents, as horrible as they are. Another government beuracracy would not help. The overwhelming majority of parents would not allow their child to die. So I see no reason to create a government arm to make sure all parents are meeting their child's medical needs. Too much room for corruption, and misuse of power.

Unfortunately, this makes all Christians look bad. People will extrapolate this to "fundamentalist Christians" who "take the Bible literally."

I heard the father on the radio state that "if you look in the Gospels and the epistles, you never see Jesus or anyone going to a doctor" (that's a paraphrase from what I recall hearing him say).

People who interpret the Bible like this scare me. Sadly, it caused his daughter's death.

This is what "word of faith" movement pushes people to believe"Just have faith that God will heal ya!". Well their theology is messed up just like Hillary's "village" theology! By his stripes we are healed is not referring to physical healing but healing spiritual blindness and going our own ways.

Obviously the father has never read the Bible. Luke was a doctor and Paul told Timothy to do whatever he said.

The folks who need to go to jail are the one's who taught him this lie to begin with. Somehow they should be held responsible too. But, God will deal with them. Jesus refereed to such people as being better off if a mill stone were tied around their neck and tossed into the sea as opposed to what is coming to them.

I'm not going to spend my time here explaining myself, MP. You either possess the cognitive skills to understand my posts or you don't.

This is the kind of things that gives Christians a black eye. I believe this falls under "You shall not test the Lord your God". Praying for an ill child to be healed is to be commended, but praying for an ill child to be healed IN LIEU OF seeking reasonable medical care is nothign short of neglect. It's akin to a person getting in debt, and then asking God to bless them with a winning lottery ticket. That's not only unscriptural, it defies all sense of reason.

Oh, and I agree with Bro. Curtis. Another government beuracracy is not the answer. Individuals holding other individuals accountable for their own actions is the only thing that will help.

What a double standard.

While the parents may be considered 'guilty' of negligence for not recognizing the emergency and taking their daughter to the doctor....

they are prosecuted.....

yet, under our present and 'progressively changing' government, not only is abortion allowed and protected (even by protecting the clinics from strict regulation and reporting incidents of complications) but euthanasia is being written into the health care bill....... and some suspect or have proof that the government has sponsored 'bad medicine' which has resulted in the deaths of people.............

But allegations are neither investigated, or whistle blowers, including laboratory scientist involved in some of the experimentations and development of 'agents' have mysteriously disappeared or died under suspicious circumstances here AND in Canada..... and the government is not made to account!

This doesn't relieve the parents of their responsibility...............
but there was a time in our country where such misguided reasoning would not have been prosecuted.... and would have been considered by the community as a tragic loss for the family deserving of comforting and the community would trust (because most people in the community believed in God and His judgement) that matters of this nature, not involving intention.... were within His perogitive to recompense as He saw fit.

I have not followed this news article. However, it seems like Christian Science doctrine that denies modern medicine in the belief that prayer brings us closer to God and therefore, divine healing. The Christian Scientist denies sin and sickness are reality, only in degrees of separation from God, therefore, the closer we are to God, the less these things can touch us and if we are so touched, our prayer, in truth, nothing wavering, can bring us into a closeness with him that will shine forth the truth of their belief, that neither sin, nor sickness are realities in a world created by one who is the expression of divine love.

Now, not many people will make the distinction that the tenets of Christian Science are not fundamental Christian beliefs. But, I submit to you they are not. I would not worry about people who don't know anymore than to think the word Christian alone makes a Christian.

Where in the context of Lk. 17 does Jesus say that?

Why don't you just call me a clan member and get it over with ?

The way I see it, my comment must have stung you a bit.

Anyhoo, I wouldn't challenge the master in an insult contest, if you don't like my comments, don't read them. You have no authority to tell me what & where to post.

What in the world are you rambling about. Get back on topic and quit with the derail attempts. It isn't all about you.
