Toyota have taken out a prized scalp in the U.S. The question is, who is next, Ford or GM?
-----------------------------------------------
May 3 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp. ranked third in U.S. auto sales for the first time in April, outselling DaimlerChrysler AG and helping Asian companies capture a near- record share of the market.
Toyota, Asia's largest automaker, sold 219,965 cars and light trucks, increasing 4.5 percent from a year ago and topping DaimlerChrysler's 211,395. Japanese and South Korean brands sold 39.7 percent of new vehicles, the most since October's record 40 percent, according to Autodata Corp. Sales rose 2.6 percent at Honda Motor Co. and 0.2 percent at Hyundai Motor Co. and fell 5.3 percent at Nissan Motor Co.

Of Ford, GM, and Daimler-Chrysler, DC is the healthiest in the US. There is no doubt that Toyota is on the March. However, news reports are that Toyota's latest vehicle, the re-designed Avalon, has been the victim (or those who have bought it have been the victim) of some major quality glitches. The question will be, how big can Toyota become while still maintaining their quality?

Ironically, Toyotas are now being made in the US, and their quality is dropping.
