That's what democrats want republicans to believe, but the simple fact is this - every time conservatism runs, conservatism wins.
If a conservative had run against Obama it would have beena slam dunk for the conservative.
Instead, the candidate was McCain.
And Government pushing the limits and tinkering with private markets is what got us into this mess we're in now.
Now that we have your opinion on the past and the just past election, how about giving us your opinion on the main point of this paragraph, i.e.: The deteriorating economy now threatens to undermine the political value of the GOP's fundamental identity as the party of private markets and limited government.

The article merely points out that the Democrats are the party that buys votes with government hand outs and that what is bad for the economy is good for the Democrats.
Eventually those who live on government handouts will wake up and realize that those who are self reliant live a more satisfying life and on an individual basis one of two things will happen.
Either they will sit and stew in their government paid misery or they will get up and do something to improve their own situation.
When enough get tired of living off the government scraps the economy will improve.

While Republicans buy votes with promises that everyone can grow up to be President (or rich or whatever) if only they stop trying to be good neighbors, stop trying to work with others for mutual benefit and start clawing their way to the top.
