I am on a certain dating site and among Baptist there tends to be far more SBC over any other stripe of baptist. SBC are not all the same so do notknow if I can ditch these women because of their SBC ties. However I am IFB. Not all Fundamentalist are the same and my church is different. For example the main Bible used is the NKJV and those in my singles ministry go to movie theaters and some listen to CCM (Contemporary Christian music/worship). In a Paul Chappel Fundamentalist church, or in a Fundamentalist church by other IFB leaders this would be unheard of.
So will it be possible to date/marry a Southern Baptist? Recently I was given the bootby a Fundamentalist lady whom said that my music standards are way too loose. I am not opposed to contemporary worship and so got the boot. This actually may have been the second or third time I got the boot by a Fundamentalist over that issue or the movie theater or Bible translation differences. This gal just was more honest about why she axed me.

I think you'll do fine with an SBC gal, John. Your views on music and such are in line with my SBC church/young people.
You may find one that is more liberal than you, just as you've found IFB's that are more conservative.
The thing is, if its true love, you will work together to find a church you can both agree on. So don't let the slight differences between IFB's and SBC's stop you from getting to know someone. -
Maybe you are SBC and dont even realize it!!
Just keep in mind that SBC churches are just indpendent as IFB, if not even more so! :wavey:
I trust you will find the gal of your dreams :flower: -

It seems to me that being a Christian, having accepted the Lord Jesus as your Savior, is all about freedom..., not being burden down with unreasonableness.
Perhaps getting "the boot" is a good thing? A blessing in disguise?
Sin is specifically spelled out in The Word. What isn't specifically spelled out should be taken to the Throne of Grace and left there.
Any one here think the Lord could not settle any matter? I'm certainly not into "Rock & Roll" Gospel Music..., but I am fond of the Rock & Roll I grew up with in the 50's & 60's and no, I don't think listening to that music is a sin. -
You will find your gal, just as soon as you get away from the pharisees.

I am IFB, and I am fine with contemp music on the Christian radio stations. So are lots of IFB women and girls that I know.
I am a Grandma, so I am only saying this, because there are lots of lovely IFB ladies that you could date, but most of them want to meet a man in church, not on a website.
Just sayin...... -
It's not necessary to insult fellow Christians....is it? I am not a Pharisee. -
Debbie, chill, it wasn't you that dumped him over his choice of Christian music... ROFL...
-
I was making light of the reasons the women were dumping him. That is why I used the lowercase p.
But, if I have caused you to stumble then I apologize. -
I had a young woman totally rip out my heart, put it in a blender, blend it up and feed it to me. At the time, it was horrible. I mean, who breaks off an engagement!?
But it was meant to be. I married someone else. She is the mother of my two kids.
She is a baptist. A SBC type. And I was a Church of Christ person. So kudos to those SBC girls who date! -
Would say that its very important that both of you are "like minded"
Both MUST be Christians as non negoitable start, but also need to make sure both of you can agree enough in "non essentials' to be able to have the Lord work in and through the relationship!
just make sure that what one sees as being "just" conviction/preference not seen as other as being essential to being a Christian and obeying God!
My wife and I both were members of different pentacostal Churces, and have similiar views on areas of Bible and theology, but both of us now members of a baptist Church past several years, so were able to maintain and keep growing in our walk with God and each other as have common perspectives in things!
Think that is important thing, to realise that "just" other person being saved is not enough to make it a valid relationship ! -

I need to UPDATE my profile on the site to reflect my views as a IFB. Many women will toss me to do the dogs because of my views on music and movie theateres.

Made changes to my profile
I added this. When a gal look at my profile and see BJU they will immediately think that I am a strong Fundamentalist. This paragraph will clear the confusion.
While I do attend a Fundamental Baptist Church, my church is more in the moderate zone. That said I am not against contemporary worship, movie theaters, bible translations like the NIV, ESV, etc among other things that many Fundamentalist boldly will stand and separate over. So if you are Fundamentalist that makes a big deal of the things mentioned above you probably will not find me compatible. Thanks.. -
