I
would suggest you listen to the program before making ignorant comments.
Rev. have you ever read the Declaration of Independence all the way through? Most Americans have not. Indeed most Americans are quite ignorant of what it says.
Rev. which should be in the printed version of the Declaration of Independence. When Jefferson and the committee and the one passed by Congress put a dash - but no period . after the words "pursuit of happiness". The first printer, for unknown reasons, removed the dash - and added the period .
This
makes a difference in the meaning of the document. In your opinion should we revert to the origin or keep the changed documents?
Bub, you just spout out comments when you get mad. I quoted what you provided. Therefore your accusation of ignorance does not stand. I suggest you learn to keep your emotions in check.
You quoted nothing, just gave a one word reply from pure ignorance. You have nor read the book, not have you listened to the program. Simply another of your ignorant, knee-jerk replies. I am not
mad Rev just sad that a preacher of the gospel chooses to remain so ignorant of so much ... and seems to be proud of his ignorance.
Have you ever read the Declaration of Independence all the way through?
Listen to the program and then give me educated reasons for liking or not liking what she says.
Pure garbage. First they set up the argument with a lie.
Because we have accepted the view that there is a trade-off between equality and liberty, we think we have to choose. Lately, we have come, as a people, to choose liberty. Equality has always been the more frail twin, but it has now become particularly vulnerable. If one tracks presidential rhetoric from the last two decades, one will find that invocations of lib-erty significantly predominate over praise songs for equality….
I have not accepted such. I know nobody who has, until now.
I guess you can read what you want in the declaration. Only three rights are mentioned.
Actually listened to it twice. Once on the way home on the car radio and once again on the Internet while scanning photos at home.
Pure garbage. First they set up the argument with a lie.
You may not have accepted it and I am not surprised. I bet you have never even heard the concept before. But show me how equality has been equal as strongly enforced with liberty for African Americans, Native Americans, women, and other minority groups.
Do you agree with the sentence, "Equality and liberty—these are the summits of human empowerment; they are the twinned foundations of democracy."
By the way, you gave no link to your quote.
Obviously you did not listen to the entire program or you would know better than to make that comment.
Whoa, such an educated, brilliant, accomplished, informed, erudite reply. I am so impressed and so kindly said. I must say you are one extremely polite fellow.
Another absolutely brilliant reply and so kindly said.
Oh, by the way, there was more than two people on the program ... become even more brilliant by listening to the entire program.
Have you ever read the entire Declaration of Independence ... before today that is?
Even today?
As you are so deeply knowledgeable about this topic, can you tell me what writings from the 1600th century many of the concepts included in the Declaration of Independence comes from ... some lifted word-for- word?
Quest, I don't know there is a conclusion if I understand your question. But I found the program fascinating in the discussion on various sections of the Declaration of Independence and the compromises made between five members of the committee.
There is so much that most of us do not know about how this document came into being.
Oh, but I asked first. I put up an on-topic, informed by your link response. I do not accept the premise. I reject the idea of any trade-off, and I certainly reject any mass acceptance, or acquiescence to such an idea.
Why would I listen to an NPR battle-ax
prattle on for an hour about it.
I've read the Declaration of Independence multiple times.
I've had to.
I've taught it, required students to memorize portions of it, and have used it as a writing prompt.
It is something that all Americans should read.
I believe many have.
Someone just give me the controversy here in a nutshell.
