The Dept of Defense has its own definition of Religion (click here for web page) :
Definition of religion: A personal set or institutionalized system of attitudes, moral or ethical beliefs, and practices that are held with the strength of traditional religious views, characterized by ardor or faith, and generally evidenced through specific religious observances. (repeated in other regulations)

Very open ended. After all, it is a "free" country."
-
Religion: Any of hundreds of schemes by man to "help" God..
"Christianity" is what God does for man, without any help from man.
hmm.. I may not have that exactly right, but it works. -
"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." James 1:27
-
Which is maybe why Gandhi said, "Christianity sounds like a wonderful religion. To bad no one tries it." Something like that.
-
I heard a story about a father who was telling his son what a Christian was. The boy asked, "Daddy, have I ever seen one?"
"If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?"
We need to ask ourselves, "Is there anything different enough about me that others can tell I'm a Christian without my having to even say anything?" If people can't look at us and see Jesus, there is something wrong with our lives. -
There are decent enough people in this world who can portray the image you imagine.
Cheers,
Jim
