One problem with this proposal is its lack of methods to preclude the non-rich/gangs from having access to guns.
This is a consistent problem with gun control in this country where guns owned legally or possessed illegally are so numerous.
Opening a rabbit trail:
Many innocent lives have been lost while maintaining our devotion to the 2nd amendment.
What group or individual decides when to call for the well-maintained militia to take up arms against our corrupt, non-constitutional supporting political leaders?
I do not envision a good outcome of such a well-intended confrontation.
Hand guns and assault rifles against tanks, plans, rpgs, ieds, etc.
Let's see. 2.5 million presently in military service, all branches.
300 million guns in the hands of 200 million Americans 22 million of which have combat training.
Over all we outnumber them 100 to 1 and outnumber them 10 to 1 with military training.
Not to mention the number of our present military who will refuse to fire on fellow Americans.
Do the numbers. It isn't even close. Guerrilla Warfare has proven able to defeat a standing military 10 times larger in numbers. Check out Francis Marion during the Revolution and John Mosby during the civil war.
Tanks are infantry support weapons. And a guerrilla unit can destroy the infantry, and stop the tanks. Dinner plates painted green can be laid on the ground which the tank commander will think are anti-tank mines. When they exit the tank to clear the mines, they will be slaughtered by the guerrillas.
We don't have assault rifles. They have been illegal in the hands of civilians since 1938.
However, both my AR-15s can be fired very rapidly, as fast as I can pull the trigger. Couple those with my Remington 700 .308 with a 10x Unertl sniper scope, and my Beemiller 9mm carbine, and I can probably hold my own against 1/10 of an Army soldier. :)
As for fully automatic rifles, you don't need select fire or bump stocks. You just have to know how the rifle works.
If you guys are talking about fighting on Trump's side I think the majority of gun owners might stand against you. Regardless, it doesn't make sense to assume all gun owners fight for the same side. During the Revolutionary War both the standing army (British) and the guerilla's (Patriots) basically carried similar arms. How do you think you semi-automatic weapons will do against fighter jets, drones, tactical missiles, etc? Good luck with that.
Agreed. Fully automatic weapons are more useful for spraying tree lines than actually hitting a person. In 90% of situations, I would prefer a sniper rifle to a M-16 or M4.
Not too well, but an armed populace could still cause a lot of havoc. Don't forget, that if America were
ever taken over by a leftist government like the one that exists in Venezuela, a lot of the military folks would come over to the correct side. I do not believe that they would support an evil regime like Maduro's.
No sense of humor, huh? You did notice, what I actually said was, "I can probably hold my own against 1/10 of an Army soldier." 1/10th of a soldier? 1/10th? LOL!
I don't understand your remark. Are you claiming that everyone in America who owns a gun supports Trump? Or are you saying that "yur side" is not on the side of Trump?
You are the only one who has mentioned fighting on "Trump's side." Nobody is talking about President Trump (except you, who seem obsessed with the man). We are talking about fighting for ourselves. For our liberty. For our rights under the Constitution.
