Depression?

Does not really matter as far as the depression. Being a Christian no more makes you immune to mental illness than it makes you immune to the flu.
True, but as a Christian, he can draw upon and use divine resourcesthe unsaved cannot, such as Prayer, scriptures, the Holy Spirit, Pastoral counseling etc!

Here's my approach to walking in the Spirit. (Blowing away depression)

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” (2 Corinthians 10:5–6)

We censor every impure thought or imagination. And change the channel in our thinking on any thought that does not conform to obedience to Christ.

And we replace it with:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Knowing Jesus is God and God is love. So Jesus is lord of our lives when love rules our thoughts and actions.

Jesus is the Lord over us even when we are depressed, or even in disobedience to Him though!

All of that is true, but there are times when all the prayer, scripture reading, counsel, and fellowship does not help. Sometimes a person can through waters so deep and dark that they despair even of life. That is what makes depression so frustrating. If my friend had strep throat he could take an antibiotic and get better. No one can offer the same relief for depression. I have had situational depression over things like losing out on a promotion or relationship problems, but I recovered from those in short order. Maybe my friend will recover from his malaise in similar fashion, but I do not know. I called him this morning and left him a voicemail telling him that I am praying. Not much else I can do.

My senior pastor has suffered from it for years, so am well aware that it can be a real burden for some, but was just seeing if your friend has put into use ther resources given to him by God?

I am just trying to be a good friend and help as best as I know how. I leave the medical diagnosis and treatment options to the professionals.

As you should, but my pastor has always stated that he comes out of it when he focuses upon the Lord and His word...

You come out of it when the chemicals in your brain change. He focus on God and His Word during the transition from depressed to normal or manic (whichever be the case).

I think daily reading and application of the promises of God for us would be a great benefit here though!

So, lets use your logic to its extent. By your logic, your pastor becomes depressed because he neglects Gods Word and His promises.
