SBTC elected as its leaders for 2019: Juan Sanchez of High Pointe Baptist Austin, Joshua Crutchfield of First Baptist Madisonville, and Joyce McKinley of Friendship Baptist Rowlett. Jim Richards has been executive director of the convention since its founding in the 1990s.
"The newest of the Southern Baptist state conventions, the SBTC was constituted on Nov. 10, 1998, during a meeting at Woodforest Baptist Church in Houston."
"Including the resolution marking the 20th anniversary of the convention, messengers approved eight resolutions on matters such as justice reform, abuse and the international refugee crisis," urging "decision-makers at every level in the United States judicial system to apply the law equally, irrespective of race or socio-economic status."

No one was honored this year with the convention's Judge Paul Pressler Annual Award for Distinguished Service.
The executive board of the convention has "suspended awarding a recipient of the Pressler Award until further notice." -
Previous recipients of the now-shelved Pressler Award include Paige & Dorothy Patterson, Richard Land, Jimmy Draper, and O.S. Hawkins.
The award, named for Judge Paul Pressler, chief strategist of the 'Conservative Resurgence,' was "given annually to a Texan who has demonstrated similar leadership at the state or national level."
