No more kitchen table with piles of books and papers.
Reference works, word and phrase search, and commentaries are easier and more assessable on the computer.
I only use my hardback bible in church and for group study.
As much as I like to complain about computers and technology, I have to admit now that there are so many great resources for study on the internet, that I prefer to do it online.
I still have my library and I still use it, but it's so nice to be able to organize information via software resources.
I'm cheap.
Long ago bought a wordsearch program (updated from the free one) and then added quite a bit to it.
All said and done, I wish I had Logos but I have too much invested in wordsearch.
I cannot use the program alone - still have to use quite a bit of books.
BTW, I had the same issue with golf clubs.
I'll have to check it out.
I did take Greek, but as I said before I am forgetful...so once again it's Greek to me.
The description "Very few people learn Greek well enough to read the Greek New Testament unaided" suits me to a T.
Given the ability to use multiple platforms (phone, tablet, & laptop) to accomplish so much, I've migrated most of my work to these devices and prefer using them.
Since I'm a Mac guy, I use Accordance heavily because it is the best program imho. I've purchased a significant number of modules and such and have it really humming. I also use Logos though I find the program a but bulky and the add-ins insanely too expensive (except for development modules.) With more and more texts being converted to eBooks and other reading apps (Kindle, iBook, etc) there are more options out there.
I had been using Gramcord on my windows 7 laptop (you just need to install a Virtual XP program.) It was good, I think they're all but dead these days, but Accordance far better.
Anyways, I try to stay digital as much as possible. Scanning books is laborious, but I've done it. Too much of my research material is bound up in physical texts so that is still a factor.
Most of my preaching and teaching research is done with digital solutions. :)
If for some reason I am pushed for time I go to software, but to me there is nothing better than an open book. I collect books so that has a lot to do with it. I need a big desk so I can spread my books out like I like.
By the way I have a book I am looking to get rid of. It is called "The Great Supper or an illustration and defence of the leading Doctrines of Grace; in three discourses"
It is dated 1847 appears to be an original copy. Its value is around 8 to 10 dollars. But I will just give it to you. If anyone would like it I will be glad to ship it to you. Just pm me your mailing info. Here is exactly what it looks like:
