I LOVED Paul Harvey. His "Rest of the Story" always fascinating me. He was inspiring, truthful without being hurtful, encouraging, contemplating, and convicting.
He just had so much common sense and wisdom.

When I started as a young radio broadcaster in 1956, Paul Harvey was already a radio superstar. Every radio news guy tried to imitate him, but it never worked for anybody but Mr. Harvey.
I met Paul Harvey on two occasions. First in 1962 when he was the commencement speaker at my Alma Mater, Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Folks, ordinarily the commencement speech should be the shortest thing on the program. Paul Harvey spoke for one hour, in an outside setting, and nobody moved.
The second time was in Paducah, Kentucky, where I wound up as a television newscaster. I covered a speech he gave there as well as a news conference he held beforehand. At that news conference, he described what he did as a spectator at a parade. As the parade passed by, he would point out things of interest to those nearby.
That's what journalists and commentators do--point out things of interest to those who are watching, listening or reading.
I also believe that Paul Harvey was a Christian believer. He talked easily about God, and although he never explicitly described himself as a believer in the Lord Jesus, I got the impression that he was. -
Paul Harvey came from a long line of Refomed ministers as stated on the BGEA "Always Good News"

Yes, I absolutly miss the Paul Harvey. I ALWAYS enjoyed his broadcast.
Belive it or not I started listening to him as a 2nd grader! That would be the early 60's. I guess it is a testament to his way with words that he could capture the interest of a 2nd grader.
And I am thrilled to find out on the thread that he was a christian, becaus I know that I will be able to meet him and thank him for all those wonderfull "rest of the story" broadcasts. -
Back in the '60's Harvey stated parents should not send their children to Sunday School

blackbird, do you also remember that he would transition from some distasteful story by saying "Wash your ears out with this...."
Here is another Harvey truism: "Self government without self-discipline won't work." Boy, was that prophetic. -
I still miss him.

In 2003, Harvey spoke fondly of traveling with his radio station's gospel group [John W. Peterson's older brothers] among the Mennonites of Kansas:
