Yes, that is true, and many of the people that I have seen who have said that God created all music are supporters of the use of rock music. Because, however, I have also seen people who are not necessarily supporters of rock music say the same thing or something similar, I am interested in hearing from people who believe that Scripture teaches that God created all music.
Larry Norman said, "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?,"
which is a lie.
Music was at the creation.
"Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?...
...When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" Job 38:4a,7
There was Eru, the One, who in Arda is called Ilúvatar; and he made first the Ainur, the Holy Ones, that were the offspring of his thought, and they were with him before aught else was made. And he spoke to them, propounding to them themes of music; and they sang before him, and he was glad. But for a long while they sang only each alone, or but few together, while the rest hearkened; for each comprehended only that part of the mind of Ilúvatar from which he came, and in the understanding of their brethren they grew but slowly. Yet ever as they listened they came to deeper understanding, and increased in unison and harmony.
And it came to pass that Ilúvatar called together all the Ainur and declared to them a mighty theme, unfolding to them things greater and more wonderful than he had yet revealed; and the glory of its beginning and the splendour of its end amazed the Ainur, so that they bowed before Ilúvatar and were silent. Then Ilúvatar said to them: ‘Of the theme that I have declared to you, I will now that ye make in harmony together a Great Music. And since I have kindled you with the Flame Imperishable, ye shall show forth your powers in adorning this theme, each with his own thoughts and devices, if he will.
It's true that there is much music with profane lyrics. In my original post, I did not have the lyrics in mind, but all music produced by musical instruments.
If I recall history correctly, Adam was an accomplished banjo player - claw hammer-style. The 3 finger-style was refined and popularized by Earl Scruggs, although he did not invent it. ;)
In answer to your question, I would say God gave the ability to make music to mankind, like He gave the ability to make and fashion things from metal, cloth, wood, etc, and we choose some of what to produce from His gifts.
I really do not believe that any music, absent lyrics, is evil in and of itsself.
Did God create all music? I would say no for the same reason I would say He did not createc
jet planes, or cruise ships.
I believe there is a music from God.
And, there is a music from satan.
Because there is
music from God, satan must imitate as he has no originality.
So he will have his music also.
I believe also that man, because
he is created in the image of God is creative in the area of music also.
Sometimes that music
will reflect the music of God.
Sometimes it will reflect the music from satan.
And sometimes it just reflects man's music.
Very interesting. How do you support these statements from Scripture, especially the idea that there are 3 categories of man-made music: reflects God's music, reflects the devil's music, or reflects man's music?
