Eastern University inaugurates its new president
"Ronald A. Matthews was inaugurated as Eastern University’s new president during a ceremony at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Wayne this weekend."
"inaugural blessings were administered to Matthews by
Diane G. Chen, professor of New Testament at the Palmer Theological Seminary;
Fr. Emmanuel Pratsinakis, a retired Greek Orthodox priest;
Diane M. Langberg, friend and psychologist; and
the Rev. Carl F. Janicki, director of campus ministry at Cabrini University."
"According to university officials, the inaugural week of events was chosen because it was the same week that the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, which would later become Eastern University, was founded in 1925. 'I am so honored to be in the lineage of...leaders who have served as president of Eastern University,' Matthews said as he gave his address."
Flashback to 1925:
"Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Philadelphia...was recently organized as a fundamentalist training school in opposition to the Crozer Theological Seminary, Chester, Pa., which has been credited with being modernist in its teaching."
