I love Lutzer but I do know that his view on salvation is much different than that of John MacArthur, and probably a reason why he never gets invited to any of MacArthurs conferences. I am not sure who is right and who is wrong regarding the doctrine from the Bible as both make good arguments from the scriptures. Frankly its not works that gains one salvation which Lutzer agrees. However Lutzer says that one can make a profession of faith, and live like a devil and still be in heaven, they just wont "inherit" heaven, but they will be there.....

Without resorting to slander about the author, which is unnecessary, I'd say there are good arguments from both sides of the issue.
In addition all preachers have made some statements that could be held against them and that they may be ashamed of. These need to be clarified and adjusted to Scriptural truth.
It looks to me this guy is simply trying to sell some books. I don't know of any preacher who couldn't be nit-picked on every word spoken. Context is also important.

He's a great man of God. You need to try reading "Who are you to Judge."

I agree every preacher can be nit picked and certainly those in the Lordship camp love to do this and then separate from people because of it.

First you posted this on a forum. Second going after great men of God this way under the title of "The Lying promise" does nothing to prove he is a "great man of God.
I think the better question is "Who is he to judge?" If it must be asked.

Where did he say everyone?
If he offered proof you'd come back with something snide to say. That's you. Incessantly you.

In your writings the idea that belief determines destiny means that no work, whether good or bad, ever affects either initial justification (getting saved) or final salvation (entering the eternal kingdom of God). Demonstrating this you teach that "Some things can exist together, but human works and the grace that brings salvation cannot. To clear the field for His own activity, God eliminated every work of man - past, present and future."3 Again, no work of any kind or degree ever has any effect on salvation.
No scripture is offered to support this, but it is likely based loosely on a verse such as John 5:24 : Click to expand...
So here is an example of this "great man of God's" work. Imposing a passage of scripture on his work as "but it is likely based loosely on a verse" is not an honest way to deal with anything he has said. If you cannot fully support the context in which he said something maybe you should not write a book about it.

Rev,
You are very defensive. I love Lutzer but was just curious on his views on the topic, and you have yet to address them.
Question:
Have you read the books Your Eternal reward and How you can be sure you will spend eternity with God?

Really? That is it? You call me defensive when your man has misrepresented Lutzer?
The very next paragraph he says:
Many, yourself included it seems, read scriptures such as these and say, "See, he said 'believe,' period, not, 'repent and believe' or 'do good works and believe,' just, 'believe!' " Commenting on
John 5:24 , Tony Evans, who is also heavily promoted by Moody, insists that, "You hear, you believe, and you have eternal life. Jesus did not add any qualifiers to his promise. There is no 'may have' or 'might have' here."4

This is an out right false accusation. He takes a passage that he, himself says he did not get from Lutzer and assumes that Lutzer bases a comment on and imposes what he believes Lutzer "seems" to be saying.
I am dealing with your man's "open letter" found here http://www.defendingthegospel.org/letters/lutzer.htm
The title of the thread is questioning whether Lutzer is a false teacher. Then you use someone who has intentionally dealt with Lutzer dishonestly.
Shame on him and shame on you.

Rev we are not on the same page.
Lutzer says in one of his books that one may live like the devil yet enter but not inherit heaven. How do you deal with that?

So you do not want to deal with the misrepresentations given in the open letter by the author of the op that I have presented in this thread in clear context?
