Featured Ethical moralism and the New Avengers movie

    That’s “ethical,” John. I know the definitions of those words individually. Ethics is typically external while morals are internal to a person. Moralism can be viewed as vise or virtue…typically vise. I am just not sure what you mean in this thread.

    I am leaning to the idea that you are speaking of morals and not necessarily ethics, and morality perhaps based on religion in general and not true religion. But I am not sure. What makes it difficult for me, perhaps, is that you are using a fictional character rather than real life examples where we can examine the beliefs and history of the person. If my understanding is leaning to what you are examining, then perhaps a person such as Mahatma Gandhi would be a better subject than Captain America. Anyway…thank you for your response and I apologize for not exactly getting your topic. I'm still working on it. At least I did see the movie.

    Captain America idealizes the America of an earlier time and decade. He was originally from the '50s, I think.
    IDK, I'm not an expert on Marvel characters. I did see the first Avengers movie and liked it, was told that this new movie was good too.

    Have not read the thread like at all aside from the first couple of posts, so I'm sure I'm not saying anything very important and probably not on topic by this point. But there's my thoughts.

    In the movie he does seem to represent a different set of ethics. The new one was OK....if you liked the previous ones you'll like this one...it was good. BUT….I have to say it….Ant Man created Ultron….not Stark. :wavey:

    I've re-read the OP several times, and I can't figure out who the unbeliever with a moralistic background was, who specifically the Christian was, and how the unbeliever outdid the Christian.

    Think he was referring to Captain America? The character professes a belief in monotheism, but is never said to be a Christian.

    Ultron was not an atheist

    Ultron made several religious comments in the film proving not to be an atheist. Can anyone guess which one showed him not to be an atheist? HINT- It is not the scene where he quotes "On this rock I will build my church."

    I have not seen the movie (comic books not my thing), but I understand that the director is an avowed atheist.

    Did a bit more reading about the film. Am I correct to understand that there are parallels between Ultron and the Devil?

    No, Ant Man is not in this one; they have a separate movie for him coming out in July.

    Don't say that, he may end up like some here who end every statement in !!!!!

    I think the open ending leaves more room for a nicer interpretation, lol.
