Plus, my Irish licence is huge, about the size of half a full sheet of paper (lengthwise) then folded in thirds.
No problem with this one. -

It is probably a great idea.

Makes sense. Have you been to Europe lately?
Traveling between countries is like going to Wal-Mart to get a gallon of milk. Its pretty easy. Last time I was over there we drove through three countries in one day getting from one destination to the next. They need to consolidate. -
Next comes the international ID/drivers' lic.

But as far as the OP - anybody know the latest? -
I thought this was already in place. Missionary friends of ours in France have only one card that serves as drivers license and insurance and ID. I was under the impression that they used it wherever they traveled. It was the size of a standard USA drivers license. That was at least 5 years ago.

I note that The Europeans segregate driving with a trailer at 750 Kg...
This is a good Idea!
Many people rent a trailer and have no idea of how to pack it, or what changes in drivability it makes on a vehicle.
So, IMHO, you should need a license that shows you know how to handle a heavier trailer load. -

The UK and Ireland still use national driving licenses. I know that for a fact. I am pretty sure Germany does as well.
I live in an EU state and have never heard of a Europe wide license. That doesn't mean it does not exist, just that I have never heard of it.
Just looked. It appears they will be phased in from 2012-2032.
