For those of you who are infatuated with the Narnia movies, just as earlier the world ran after Tolkien, I would like to say this about CSL.
i. Lewis shortly before his death was turning toward the Catholic Church. Lewis termed himself "very Catholic" -- his prayers for the dead, belief in purgatory, and rejection of the literal resurrection of the body are serious deviations from Biblical Christianity. He even went to a priest for regular confession and received the sacrament of extreme unction on 7/16/63.
ii. His contention that some pagans may "belong to Christ without knowing it" is a destructive heresy.
iii. Lewis believed that we are to become "gods", an apparent affirmation of theistic evolution. He also believed the Book of Job is "unhistorical"; and that the Bible contained "error",and is not divinely inspired.
iv. Lewis never believed in a literal hell, but instead believed hell is a state of mind one chooses to possess and become -- he wrote, "... every shutting-up of the creature within the dungeon of its own mind is, in the end, Hell".
v. If evangelicals applaud such books as Mere Christianity, it should be no surprise if we find them ‘working towards a common mission’ with the enemies of the gospel. The young Christian should be very careful about what he reads, and those in positions of authority (pastors, teachers, parents) should be very careful about what they recommend others to read.
vi. He held that the Genesis account came from Pagan and mythical sources.
vii. Total depravity [in man] was rejected by Lewis, who believed in the goodness of human nature!
May I have your considered remarks on the above? As Bible-believing Christians, we should beware of the heresies of even the greatest philosphers and intellectuals of our times. Remember, the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God!
False Theology of C.S.Lewis

Natters, can I have your specific remarks on the seven points mentioned above. I say this only because there appears to be a craze for CSL, and I keep reading my Bible more and more and realise that - could this be another false prophet?
-
I would love to see some documentation for the things you have claimed above, but something tells me that I will have to ask you about 10 more times, and you still wont provide it.
From now on, please simply type the letters
T-R-O-L-L to begin every post, and you will gain TONS of respect. -
Check out the back issues of Christianity Today magazine; also John W Kennedy; also Dr Tony Baxter on 'Enigma of CSLewis' CRN Journal;John Robbins 'Trinity Review'; and try reading CS Lewis' non-fiction itself.
www.trinityfoundation.org has the article by John Robbins which is a must-be-read if you want to know the TRUTH.
[TROLL - Try Reflecting on [the] Lies of Lewis.] -
Frankly, I dont want to get into a meaningless debate, because I am more concerned with the TRUTH. I suppose it is because I believe that the Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God that I have this problem with CSL. The 'best minds of our generation' could be 'the most foolish intellects before God!'
Truth cuts like a knife [or shall we say, a two-edged sword?] -
As you clearly stated, the Bible is the only infallable and inerrant Word of God; therefore, anything that is written; fact or fiction; will fall short on your scales.
If you wish to read your Bible to the exclusion of all else, then that is your decision, but it is not fair to judge other people because they wish to read fantasy or fiction that may or may not have theological errors in it. -
Have we not yet reached the point of beating this poor horse to death?

procyon, your other thread on this subject was closed. This one should be, too.
CS Lewis has done immense good for many with his writings. I am one of them. His position with God is between him and God, however, and that is something the curious will be able to find out, I am sure, later. -
Sorry, Helen, I'm not a moderator here or I would close it myself.

I guess the witch trials never end for the Fundies.
Long on accusation, short on evidence. Always living to point the finger in accusation. -
Excuse me, but I think I would be considered a "fundie" by most. Please stop the accusations.
