Just for information.
There is so much talk about illegal aliens, here on the BB and in the press. Most of it is negative. It made me wonder what now well known folk may have at one time been illegal aliens. A quick check turned up the following.
Arnold Schwarzenegger --- actor and Governor of California
Salma Hayek---------------actress
Michael J. Fox--------------actor
Jose Antonio Vargas-------Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter
Alfredo Quinones-----------Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon
Ann Rand-------------------writer

Thread Body: "now well known folk"
OK - accept your premise of "famous".
How do the lists stack up when comparing illegals who became famous to legals who became famous in this country?
How many more can you add to your list?
I believe that both of us can conclude the list of "legals" can go on for pages, without reaching very far back in time with regards to implementation of immigration law. -

Liberals do not care anything about illegal immigrants. They are just trying to obtain a larger voter base. They are nothing but a political tool.

Let's rephrase: There is so much talk about ABORTIONS --------------- It made me wonder what now well known folk may have at one time been ABORTED.
A quick check turned up the following--oops! We'll never know will we????
Off topic I know, but crabby, your steering needed (needs) adjustment, so just suck it up! -
Down here in So Fla they don't call them 'illegal' anymore. They are "undocumented". Aside from a fresh batch of people who want to come here and don't want to assimilate, but transfer their own language and culture to our geographical area, they take the jobs that used to be available for those who were born and raised in this country, whatever their ethnicity.
The politicians definitely are looking at the influx as a possible source of votes to keep their jobs but the entrepreneurial class is also guilty. Cheap labor may be good in the short run but we all have to live here.
Driving the wages down to increase profit effects us all. It is kind of like the fellows that killed the goose that laid the golden egg. If you are as old as I am, and remember when a man could work at a job that paid decent enough wages to support a family while the wife stayed home raising the kids, own a home, send his kids to college, those days are long gone.
If you are a teen or young adult "opportunity" might seem to be a job stocking shelves at Wallmart or Home Depot. Flipping burgers at McDonald's. It wasn't like that when I was a teenager.Young folks nowadays wouldn't know that. Seems the cow is so far out of the barn now that there is no point in closing the door. -

Schwarzenegger came to the U.S.in 1968 on a B-1 Visa.

I suspect the rest of your list is just as well-researched. -
Arnold Schwarzenegger Didn't sneak in, he did have a visa and came in through legal channels.
Michael J. Fox All I can find is he admits there was a time he lived here illegally. The wording indicates he came legally but like others his visa expired.
Salma Hayek- Also had a visa so came in through correct channels but let her visa expire.
Jose Antonio Vargas needs to get right with God and stop breaking the law.
Alfredo Quinones Set it right and became a citizen.
Ayn Rand also came in through legal channels. Though I do not approve her lying about it.
There is a difference between these and the millions who refuse to try and assimilate though.
Most of these came here legally to begin with and when that changed they rectified the situation.

The information I first found on him was on a government web site. The same site listed all those that I listed except for the writer, Vargas. -

He was never an illegal alien, like your O/P tells us.

That's because of liberal lawlessness we despise. -

So let me get this right. he needed money to live on but his visa said he could not earn it...
sounds like the visa was messed up to me. -

What does fame have to do with anything? Does it make it justifiable?
People who flout U.S. immigration laws and those who justify and advocate for amnesty annoy me to no end. They insult those of us who followed the rules when we came here. -
