The almanac's 2009 edition, which goes on sale Tuesday, says at least 2/3 of the country can expect colder-than-average temperatures this winter, with only the Far West and Southeast in line for near-normal readings.

"This is going to be catastrophic for millions of people," said almanac editor Peter Geiger.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

OK, let's the check the latest overall weather picture from my own state of Wisconsin.
Last winter we were well below average on temperatures, and way above average in snowfall. This summer, the official temperature at the airport in nearby Milwaukee has yet to reach 90 degrees. If that holds up for the short remaining time of summer (in the Weather Channel forecast for the next week and a half the highest predicted temperature is 80), it will be the first time in recorded history that Milwaukee has gone an entire summer with no 90 degree days. We did have a couple of days in my town where we reached 90, but only a couple, and just barely. And now, if the Old Farmer's Almanac is anywhere in the vicinity of accurate, there will be another winter of unusual cold and snow.
Now I know that global warming is supposed to produce extremes. But if global warming is real, why are the only extremes these days on the COLD side?

Global cooling - would be expected to produce cooler than normal weather in all seasons.
Global warming - if true, is producing cooler than normal weather in all seasons.

As Al Pacino said in 'And Justice For All,' "There's something REALLY WRONG going on here!"

We've had the coolest summer in AL in at least 10 years (if not more) thus far.

It must be all those "carbon credits" I cashed in.

As the Weather Channel founder said...we've been duped by one of the biggest scams in modern history.

Let's all take up a collection to get Sue some battery-operated heated socks!! She gets cold helping those sweet darlings get to school safely!

I'd welcome a cold winter - especially one with snow! I LOVE winter and LOVE the snow and missed it last year. We had a bit of cold but hardly any snow.

But then again, I now have a commuting college student. Maybe I don't want TOO much snow....

I can believe it. We have had some leaves up here on Ohio that have been changing colors for 2 weeks. That's 2 months before they should.

    Gotta love global warming

Warmer oceans produce colder land. More water evaporates and comes down as snow over the land. Takes much more heat to melt ice than to raise the temp of water - don't remember the numbers.

How does the atmosphere warm the ocean without warming the land?

Oh, OK. Now I get it. Global warming makes things colder.

    Thanks.

I think I've got it now! The scientists who were predicting a 'new ice age' in the 1970s were right - except that the 'new ice age' is actually going to be caused by global WARMING! Wow, science is sure neat, Mr. Wizard!

Seriously, this is what happens when science, which is supposed to be based on following evidence wherever it leads, is completely subjugated to the religion of evolution. For decades scientists have been religiously pounding round evideniary pegs into square holes in evolution theory, instead of evaluating the evidence with logic and an open mind. Now the new religion of global warming has come along, and the same thing is happening. The SCIENCE of global warming is based on temperature measurements. The RELIGION of global warming states as a required belief that all upward changes in global temerature are caused by human activity and will have catastrophic effects on the planet. This is mostly based on computer models loaded with flawed assumptions making predictions about what will happen 50-100 years in the future, and those predictions accepted as hard fact. Meanwhile the computers as often as not can't accurately predict the weather for two weeks from now. Just as with evolution, with the beliefs accepted as unchallengeable fact all data have to forced into the global warming religion, even though they often don't come close to fitting. And because scientists have been so conditioned by their uncritical acceptance of evolution as fact, most of the ones who also subscribe to the global warming religion don't even realize what they are really thinking and doing. Thus, things like the fact that there have been dramatic variations in global temperature and extreme weather periods throughout history, correlations of sun activity with earth warming, and global warming on Mars where there is no human activity (unless those vehicles we sent up there to take pictures really belched out a lot of fumes, lol!), are all explained away or twisted around. Only evidence that seems to support the religion is taken seriously. It's really a sad state of affairs.

Oh, and one more parallel: in both cases, God help you if you are a scientist and dare to stand up and challenge the accepted beliefs based on real data. You can kiss any shot at tenure goodbye immediately, and will likely be unemployed soon. You will be ridiculed, demeaned and denounced without mercy every time you show your face - and all of it without your data ever being refuted. This is modern science. Isn't it wonderful.

We've been below average for years, in winter tamps and snowfall.

Those of the Global Warming church with Al Gore as High Bishop will do and say anything to justify their position. And, Bill I'm not saying you are of that church but I'd bet your source is.

Come on guys... haven't you noticed the change in terminology?

It is no longer "Global Warming" that is so Summer of 2008!!!
    It is now "Climate Change"....

This way, if it gets colder, Gore is right..
If it gets warmer, Gore is right...

Either way... Almighty Gore is right....

Hot is cold, cold is hot... up is down, down is up... anything is believable when you exalt the liberals to godhood!

    BTW, WV is normal!!!
How many times have you ever seen that?
