At about 3 A.M. local time last Tuesday, ships of the Finnish Navy dropped depth charges into the waters near Helsinki in the vicinity of what has been reported to be a possible Russian submarine. The Finns initially refused to confirm that this “possible underwater object” was in fact a submarine, let alone a Russian submarine, and a spokesman was later quick to emphasize that the depth charges were “not intended to damage the target,” but to “let the target know that it has been noticed.”
Depth charges will do that. This drama has coincided with an effort on the part of the Finnish military—apparently unprecedented in recent history—to improve the readiness of its reserve force, the main element for which will be letters sent to 900,000 reservists this month “informing them which post they would be given in a crisis situation,” and asking them for “up-to-date details of their whereabouts.”

They have been bouncing around in American airspace uninvited as well.
-
The CCCP/Russia has been a threat to that region for decades.
-
You should be happy CMG you're getting that new cold war that you the neocons and Obama and the military industrial complex wanted.
Let the profits flow freely! -

You borrowed that strawman from Bill Krystal or Robert Kagan. It's not even an original strawman. I'm insulted.
As long as we've known each other you'd think you would at least build your own strawman to knock down in our discussions. Sheesh.
Let's say I agree 100% that Putin is a thug? Okay? I'll say it and you can quote me.
I admit Putin is a thug. There I admitted it.
Now, what does it matter what he is? It was Washington and NATO that initiated the aggression by supporting a coup that violently overthrew an elected government that was no threat to our "security" and helped divide the nation and start a civil war.
Putin didn't do that thug or no thug. Washington did.
In other words you're defending a "thug" government.
As an American that should bother you. You can borrow a whole army of strawmen and it's still not going to change it.
You'll still be defending a "thug" government the only difference will be you'll have an army of strawmen to knock down. -

What happened is that Russia sent a submarine into Finnish waters and they depth bombed it and updated their reserves in the event that Russia launches a full-fledged invasion of Finland again. Now that has nothing to do with the GOP. It has more to do with the Democrats who just tell Putin, "Naughty, naughty."

I think that the GOP should stand with Finland, about the only nation to ever repay their World War I debt to the USA. The GOP should suggest to the Democrats that they should inquire if Finland would like to have some missiles such as Poland was going to get.
I don't like Putin. The only thing that he understands is military power array against him. -
I think we should stop antagonizing Russia, meddling in everyone else's internal affairs and follow the constitution and the advice of our founders.
But following the constitution and common sense advice is un American according to the interventionists. -

There is nothing in the constitution about interventionism. I also support it if it is for the right reason. However, right now we cannot afford it and we need to clean house before we try to help anyone else.

The irony is that if we found that certain groups, both here and from overseas, had been training and supporting the 'Occupy Wall Street' bunch, I expect that some here in the US would hail them as true patriots. Possibly yourself included!
At any rate it gave Putin the excuse that he needed to take Kiev back from Ukraine. He is probably chuckling still over the opportunity. -
You think you can rely on your bias to give you all the answers don't you?

Your words are empty and mean nothing until you PROVE it.
We all know you can say it but we haven't seen you PROVE it. -

I want you to show me when, where and under what circumstances this "Russian aggression" you keep alleging has occurred BEFORE the coup took place in Ukraine.
I want you to do more than make claims. I want you to prove them to be true.
If your claims and your word have any worth this shouldn't pose a problem for you. -

Well, Poncho, you need to prove how the Ukraine has anything to do with a Russian submarine in Finnish waters because Ukraine is hundreds of miles from Finland and the Ukraine is not germane to the subject of Russian attacks against Finnish sovereignty.
-
I think Finland should give them Helsinki...
God bless. -
Unless you're intentionally attempting to distort and/or avoid the timeline of events to make it appear this thing with Finland is caused by your alleged "Russian aggression" instead of a Russian reaction to Washington's aggression in Ukraine, vis a vis the violent overthrow of Ukraine's elected government and the subsequent funding and arming of the Ukrainian military to increase the killing of Russian speaking Ukrainians.
In which case you are intentionally being dishonest to justify your Russo-phobia.
