First Daughters Not Vaccinated Against H1N1

"President Obama's school age daughters have not been vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the vaccine is not available to them based on their risk.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus. At this time only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain. The CDC also says a regular seasonal flu shot does not protect against the virus."

I'm confused by this.

Can anyone shed a little light for me?

And why do I have the feeling that somebody is trying to put something over on someone?

That's quite interesting since I know for a fact local children here have gotten it - who have no medical issues whatsoever.

On a side note, there's a PBS program that was on today that was ALL about getting the swine flu shot. Sid the Science Kid.

It's a lose-lose for the first family. If they had gotten it, people would be claiming a double-standard position allowed them to get it before the general populus. If they didn't get it, people would again be saying that they're not getting it out of some double-standard. So they can't win.

I have a 13yo, and I don't plan on vaccinating him against H1N1a. I, however, will be getting a vaccination, since I travel a lot for business.

I don't care if they have been vaccinated or not. That's up to their parents.

We already know the Obamas are arrogant elitists. Do we really need to hold up their daughters as examples of what we already know?

I don't think so.

Nobody is required to be vaccinated. It is a decision for parents to make in connection with their child's doctor and (probably) the child's school. I'm sure the President's daughters either will be vaccinated. Why have they not been vaccinated yet? I don't know but maybe they are waiting for a larger supply. After all, if the President's daughters get the vaccine while many working Americans don't there might be a political outcry over it (as silly as that is, it would happen).

Personally, I don't care what the Obama family does. I have to take care of myself, not them. I've done my research and my doctor has advised me to get the vaccine, and I will. I've already had my seasonal so as soon as the H1N1 vaccine comes along I will get it.

I don't understand why so many people are interested in the personal lives of politicians and celebrities. President Obama's children are private citizens and it is none of our business if they have been vaccinated or not. For crying out loud, let's give the poor kids some privacy!!

Why the double speak answer from the White House?

Why not just say, "As parents the President and First Lady have decided not to have their children vaccinated"?

Well, as long as we have posters here calling us "stupid" for not getting the vaccine, and posting up articles calling us "sinners", as well, this is a comparison.

Well, my family was vaccinated today.. and I can tell you that the only way they could get the vaccine was to have underlying issues... All three have Asthma, and one has epilepsy.. If they hadn't had these issues, then the Dr would not have vaccinated them... The Drs office was rationing them out according to levels of risk. So the OP seems to be right.

The health department was here in my town today at the grade school giving out free swine flu shots to any children or pregnant women who wanted it, no medical issues necessary to get it.

I guess THE ONE must be stupid and sinning for not getting his daughters vacinated.
