You don't have to read 'the fundamentals' to be a fundamentalist. You don't have to read Luther to be a Lutheran. I don't have to read John Calvin to be a Calvinist, and you don't have to read anything by Jacob Arminius to be an Arminian. We are simply talking classification here, not dedication. Your responses are identical to Jacob Arminian's objections to Calvin's teachings and are therefore qualifiable as 'Arminian' objections. If you don't like the title- don't be an Arminian!
:D
Whetstone,
I'll be whatever THE POTTER makes of me!
Today and maybe forever I am opposed to Calvinist doctrine because it is not consistent with scripture!
It is however consistent with scripture taken out of context.
Wes:

HN:
Now that is a truth. That is scripturally sound.

I see hope in that "MAYBE".
So Wes are you saying that the Holy Spirit might change your mind about the doctrine not being consistant with scripture. He can do that, you know.
Unless the Potter (hypothetically) decides to make you a Christian. Then He's not allowed. </font>
Are you questioning my profession of Faith in Christ Jesus?
Do you really believe that the Holy Spirit is going to change the bible?
I don't.
I believe you are stuck with scriptures that do not support your doctrine.

Wes,
Where ever you are in this great big ole world it must be really late. I never said that the Holy Spirit could change the Bible.
What I DID say is that the Holy Spirit could change YOUR MIND.
That is to say: have you looking at the scriptures in a whole new Light.
Unless the Potter (hypothetically) decides to make you a Christian. Then He's not allowed. </font>
Are you questioning my profession of Faith in Christ Jesus? </font>
Nope. That's why i said 'hypothetically.'
My potter is not hypothetical and as his clay I am not hypothetical either.
He is the Christ, I am a Christian....just not a hyphenated one like you are!
Calvinist-Christian.
Wes,
Do you have a preacher/pastor? Do you agree with his preaching? </font>
I've stated that I do! </font>
So does that make you a hyphenated Christian? Let's say your preacher's name is John Doe:
Does that make you a Doe-Christian.
There really is no difference in John Calvin and any other preacher, except they may have different views on scripture.
That does not make it a bad thing when one believes the same thing that they do. It just means that one has the same Biblical veiw.
NO it does not, It makes us both Christians with out hyphens.
And that is the whole point now isn't it.
Those pastors that teach their own points of view are establishing an "ism" that usually has their name as the prefix.
All Christians who then adhere to their teachings then add that person's name with a Hyphen as a prefix to Christianity.
And that is where division in the church comes from!
What is important to you regarding my knowledge of the man Calvin?
I Don't believe he is part of this discussion, his doctrines are.
Let's stick with the beliefs!
No, we wouldn't get anywhere, because you would conclude that which you should not conclude.
Furthermore, If I wanted to I could paint you a word picture of Calvin that would make you believe that he and I were best friends.
The Internet is full of information about him, so painting a word portrait of him would not be difficult at all. Then you would ridicule me.
My point stands, let us stick to discussing the beliefs, and not the man!
