If Romney wins the election, what will the nation look like during his bid for reelection? One might consider unemployment rate, inflation, debt, balanced budget, Social Security and Medicare reform, gas prices and energy policy, relations with Muslim countries and support of Israel, foreign policy in general, abortion, gay rights and any other area of interest I may have missed.

Actually, and this is President Obama's biggest fear, a pretty sizable turnaround is about 18 - 24 months away depending on who you talk to about these things. If Romney pulls it out (how is he not 10 points ahead at the end of this week?) he'll be the beneficiary of this rising tide.
That said, there will never be a balanced budget until an amendment gets forced onto Congress. Energy prices will continue to explode (except natural gas...for now.) Israel and Arabiac countries will be toe-to-toe. Gay marriage will be legal in probably 20 states (if President Obama is re-elected it will be nationally recognized as legit.) For all the rest the status quo continues.
Just my optimistic outlook. :) -

If they closed all the government including Military, both houses of congress, the courts and everything else except entitlements they still could not balance the budget. Entitlements and pensions are the culprit. They do not avoid a balanced budget because they could not spend new money. They avoid it because drastic cuts to entitlements would have to occur in order to do it. Entitlements alone are more that what the government takes in.

I agree that there is no way to balance a budget in four years. Entitlements are a big part of the problem, but, most of them were earned like Social Security and VA. The Social Security fund should have never been raided, along with the Medicare fund. The best short term hope is a growing economy which increases revenue, ALONG WITH no increase in spending, and that does not mean a decreased rate of increase.
Another way to ask this thread is, do you think Romney will be able to defend his record in 2016 if he wins? Chances of that are anyone's guess with the fluid electorate. -

Same as if Obama wins. Both are owned by the same people.
