The New Hampshire results from 2008
Candidate votes vote% delegates
Romney.......75,675...32.......7
Huckabee.....26,916...11.......4
Giuliani........20,344.....8.......0
Paul.............18,346.....8.......0
Thompson.......2,955.....1......0
Hunter............1,192.....1......0
Do you think Paul and Romney will do better or not as well in NH this year? -
All these little primaries don't really mean much. They don't have many delegates. In 2008 here's what happened (in order) with # of delegates in parentheses.
Huckabee won Iowa (17)
Romney won Wyoming (8)
McCain won NH (7)
Romney won MI (24)
Romney won NV (17)
McCain won SC (19)
So, after Jan 19, Romney is leading with 49, McCain has 26, and Huckabee 17.
Then Florida comes.
Florida has 57 delegates and they go to McCain. Romney scores Maine for 18 delegates and then Alaska for 12. Arizona and it's 50 go to McCain.
The final blow happens with California's 158 going to McCain.
My point? These little guys at the beginning mean nothing. -
Santorum will get quite a boost, even if he comes in second. (at the moment he is up 109 votes)
The other thing that the small states will do is often make some candidates go by the wayside. and it likes like this might be the case for Backman - I would say she will go in NH, but a poor showing again, may just be her ticket home.
