I said in post # 50 One thing that Dr. Terry Mortensen notes in his book The Great Turning Point is that Buffon, Werner, Hutton, Laplace, Lamarck, Smith, Cuvier, and Lyell were all deists or atheists.

Total rubbish. Einstein suggestion says that the stars could have been created and the light reach the earth all at once.

I never said that the deep time people were Christians. That is a mistake. I responded to Rev. Mitchell in my post # 50 and said that they were all atheists or deists.

Your point does show us that the Church held to the literal viewpoint regarding genesis pretty much on the whole before the coming of Darwinism!

OK. That's what he said. I was making no judgement on them.

They were just wrong in their viewpoints regarding this issue!

Where do you get that, that the light can travel instaneously?

Old Earthers cannot explain light either. Some YECs think that the light appeared six thousand years ago.

The velocity of light has to do with the laws physics. Frequncy times wave length equals the speed of the light. Frequncy times the Planck constant equals the energy. Speed of light does change when it passes through matter, like glass, or a clear stone. Lower energy red faster than the higher energy blue.

Yes, this is one of many things believers are divided over, at least those who choose to divide over it. Though I believe that earth was probably created about 6000 or so years so, there are old earth creationists I can fellowship and some I probably couldn't.
In this thread I have not mentioned anything about 24 hour days, though that does correspond with what I believe about the 7 days in Genesis 1-2, however ill-informed it may be.

However, make the days what you will -- 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 1 year, 100 years,1000 years, 1 million years, 1 billion years -- Genesis 1 still says God created the sun, moon and stars on the fourth day. This would be the day after what he created on the third day (grass, herb, fruit tree) , and the day before what he created on the fifth day (fish, fowl, etc.).

Concerning the length of a day in the Old Testament, the question arises how many millions and millions of years did Joshua march around Jericho?

Not sure what your point is? I believe we do not know how old the universe is (Job 38) and we do know how old mankind is (about 6000 years). God made the stars and their light helped illuminate the night of creation day 4.

Same point I have made from the beginning, that God made the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day. This is distinction from the original poster, who wrote:
No matter whether one obfuscates the discussion arguing about the length of these days, the fact remains that God says he made the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day. Neither does arguing and worrying about the speed of light and such like change the fact that God says he made the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day. At times you seems to agree with that:
and at times you seem to disagree:

God said no such thing. What God said in Genesis 1:16, in that fourth day, ". . . made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: the stars also. . . ." Our interpertations are not what God said He did.
