Ted Cruz: If Premiums Keep Rising After Obamacare Repeal, People Will ‘Tar and Feather Us in the Streets’
Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said if the Republicans and President Donald Trump repeal and replace Obamacare and premiums continue to rise “people will be ready to tar and feather us in the streets.”
Get ready to be tarred and feathered

Yes, the Republicans are in a hard place, no matter what happens. It doesn't help that Trump is promising more people will be covered and there will be more choices and the cost will be less. That promise, if broken, will make Obama's "you can keep your doctor" promise look trivial, and that was voted the Lie of The Year.

There is no way that what is currently being presented will lower premiums. There will be far too many sick people and far too few healthy people in the program.

Even under Obamacare, the penalty for staying uninsured was far too small. If it had been higher, a lot of insurance companies that got out of the program would still be offering coverage. -
I bet that many Republicans are now realizing that it is much easier to be the Opposition than to live up to the expectation of fulfilled promises of the Majority party.
They better get it right the first time, or the midterms will not be kind to them. -

There should be no replacement of Obamacare, just repeal. No where In the Constitution does the government have any roll in healthcare except the VA and active duty. If you want health insurance, buy it on the open market. Where did we get the idea that it is the government's place to provide health care insurance? If a law is passed to require no preexisting conditions, that is one thing, but the purchase and administration of health insurance and care is not a government function.

However:
My prediction FWIW : We will return to pre-obamacare days with Medicaid expanding in all states along with the medicare amount deducted from paychecks increasing substantially and/or ceiling elimination to help fund the federal subsidies to Medicaid.
A tax (even if it's hidden) by any other name ...:)
This will give the DNC (if they survive) 8 more years to TRY AGAIN!

The libs dug the hole by passing Obamacare to begin with.

Case in point. (This is a true account of people known to me.) A woman's husband died. She and their 12 children lived in a old wood frame house. One night the house caught fire and the house burned to the ground. The mother repeatedly went back into the burning house to save her children. All but one survived the fire due to the mother's love for her children. She, however, was horribly burned in the fire. The right side of her face and neck were horribly scarred, and her right arm was scarred and all the fingers on her right hand were burned off down to the middle knuckle. Her whole torso was burned where her nightgown caught fire. She was left so crippled up by the scarring she could not work outside the home.
But, with the help of that dreaded "welfare" she raised her remaining 11 children to love the Lord and be faithful to Him. She moved into a small house across the street from a small Baptist church and made sure all her kids attended every service. Of her 10 sons and 1 daughter, 6 of her sons ended up in ministry. Her daughter married a Baptist pastor.
How does she buy health insurance for herself and her 11 surviving children?
Have a little compassion. Does your church pay the now $700 - $1200 per month for health insurance for several families? How much do you give to those without health insurance?
I get tired of "the church should do it" but then the person saying that gives nothing to such needy people.
There is a healthcare crises in this country that we need to address. The big insurance companies are the richest corporations in the US. They make huge profits on the misery of people who pay huge premiums for insurance.
For profit hospitals charge 100s and sometimes 1000s of times the actual cost of patient care.
Obamacare tried to address the problem but just made matters worse. It provided an additional windfall profit for those already too rich insurance companies and fined poor people for not being able to afford the insurance companies outrageous policy rates.
We need to fix the problem and stop playing politics with the health of the poor. The US is arguably the richest country in the world. Perhaps the richest country ever. Surely there is a way to fix the problem considering the vast resources available to us.
But in order to accomplish that goal we will have to lay aside our lack of compassion, our personal greed, and our political extremism, and actually care for our fellow man. -

Let me give you another example from real life.
Man makes good money. Around $150,000 per year. Wife stays home and raises their 3 kids.
Man is in a terrible accident that crushes both legs. 7 surgeries and 3 years later he is able to walk again, but only very slowly and with much pain.
The company he worked for had to replace him, and after one year his disability insurance ran out. He could not afford the $1007 per month his COBRA insurance would cost him.
They used up all their savings and even withdrew from their 401k.
Wife worked but could not make enough to pay all the bills including the $3000 per month mortgage. They lost their home. Their car was repossessed. They had nothing. They were homeless. Wife's mom and dad took them into their 2 bedroom retirement home. The adults each had a bedroom and the kids slept on the floor. 5 months later, with mom and dad's help (they are retired and live on a small, fixed, income), they rented an old rundown house trailer out in the country.
They signed up for Obamacare but were told they did not make enough money to quality and they should sign up for medicaid. But medicaid told them they made too much to qualify for medicaid. (They lived in a state that did not have expanded medicaid.)
They eventually qualified for medicaid for their kids, dad was covered by VA, but mom had no coverage at all. She started having health problems which turned out to be a heart condition. No coverage. No treatment.
No matter how greedy we are we have to recognize there are people, through no fault of their own, who need medical coverage but lack the resources to purchase it.
We need a safety net of some sort. Let those who want to purchase insurance do so. Let those who do not want to, or can't afford to, be covered by a single payer plan that is means tested. Those who can pay do, those who cannot don't, and those in between pay a portion.
