Glenn Beck is a Mormon - (see link)
Glenn describes himself as a conservative-libertarian. A position that many on this board can agree with. In addition, especially of late he has been including faith as part of his of politics.
So what are you thoughts about this. Should Evangelicals be cautious about this "marriage" or is our common beliefs - conservatism enough to bond us together to fight socialism, without compromising our religious belief. Do you think that Beck could be (knowingly or unknowingly) a Trojan Horse that will sallow up Biblical Christianity?
Has his new stand pushed you away from him? or has his faith made you realize that he is seeking true guidance. Did his speech at Liberty give him more credence with Evangelicals?
Please no comments about Mormon a false religion - we know that - or other such remarks such as Beck is a big mouth ect.
This is intended to be a very serious discussion.
Where exactly is Beck heading us?
Is it time for us to get off the bus?

What has pushed me away from the man is his vilifying the Unemployed as the New Welfare. All one needs to do is review Obama's inability to get the economy going to conclude it is he, his useless administration & his collaboration with the Wall Street thieves that have recked the country and are causing millions to loose their jobs. I cant support a guy who kicks helpless Americans when they are down.

We always have to be cautious about any political movement and while we can join hands with who's main points are common with the Christian view and none that are unbearably offensive we have to be careful not to unilaterally endorse everything about the movement. There's always a tendency to divide up and take sides like two opposing teams because there is strength in doing so. I think it's something we learn from warfare! You can attain victory by dividing the enemy and breaking about loose factions. So it can pay to join hands even with those you don't fully agree with in order to attain a mutually beneficial victory. For us, it is better to be identified as a Christian that supports conservative government than a Conservative that supports Christianity. By this I mean that being a Christian should be first and foremost. I'm not convinced of Glenn Beck's depth of Biblical understanding and don't look to him for that guidance. I am convinced his ideas about the role of government - especially the federal government - is infinitely better than the direction our nation is presently barreling along.

I'll assume most of us agree politically with Beck, but I'm concerned about his slow move to incorporate his religion into the fray. He's definitely a sensationalist and gets a lot of weak minded followers although he does hit the nail-on-the-head for the most part. But this following of those who are poorly grounded in the Christian faith is worisome.
Remember for a while he had the RED phone prop that he was using to get the Obama Admin to call him. Well Todd Friel has done the same thing on his TV show (10:30 CST-378 Direct TV) with a phone prop hot line to Glenn Beck to call him about his false beliefs. I would hope he calls. If he's so concerned about the TRUTH then one would think he would look into it.
I just hope this doesn't help to legititimize the false religion that he believes in, as Mit Romney did two years ago. -
I did not catch the stick reference
anybody catch that...is he close to plagarizing "take up your cross"
Mormons have a problem with the cross...the church steeples are straight -
I watched him for the first time yesterday. Sounded like a Baptist preacher. <G>

These are the Americans that Beck Vilifies.....he should ashamed of himself.
This is the story of Al, one of those statistics you all talk about, one of the constituents you read letters from on the Senate floor, on the House floor:
"He did everything right: worked hard all his life, paid taxes, took care of his family, participated in his community. Then boom, one day he was laid off at age 58, and for more than two years after that could only find odd jobs here and there. Jobs he applied for had many people showing up to try to get the same 1 job. When he reached 99 weeks and lost his unemployment benefits, he lost his home, he put his disabled wife and son into a homeless shelter, he lived in his van, he suffered when the police confiscated his license plate due to nonpayment of the registration. (He later had his plate returned to him after a kind soul paid his registration fee.) Unable to drive the van for a time to seek work, he walked miles and miles, and prospective employers told him that he would not be hired because he was too old. Managers at both McDonald's and Wendy's told him that the was too old to work for them. The welfare office said he couldn't have food stamps without a mailing address. The homeless shelters that accept men told him they were full. He managed to hang onto his laptop and used it to email Congress and the White House to help the 99ers, but no one listened. Then one day last week, he gave his laptop away to a fellow jobless man who had just sold his own computer to buy milk for his baby, walked a few miles back to where his van was parked, and shot himself in the head."—a fellow unemployed poster
Today we learned he is no longer with us. He was declared brain dead yesterday. His family courageously and most lovingly removed him from life support, and he died.
Sen. Casey, your constituent is gone. Sen. Specter, your statistic is gone. And his representative? Someone from your district has passed.
While all of you were aiming your slings and arrows at each other—you know, your good friends on the other side of the aisle—day after day, week after week, month after month, no one was noticing that many millions of Als were trying to live through one more day of heartbreak, terror, disgust, anger and a million other emotions—while attempting to find something to eat, someplace to sleep, and, yes, by golly, being chipper on that job hunt.
Today I'm not addressing this to Democrats. Today, I'm not addressing this to Republicans. Today I'm not addressing this to an Independent. I'm not addressing it to your political beliefs, your deficit spending or not. I'm addressing this to each and every human being in Congress, and I'm putting you on notice that a man died—a 99er died—because no one moved fast enough to help him.
Do you know how many 99ers are near bottom right now—who don't know if they can stand one more day, or even one more hour, trying to hold on until financial aid comes to them? They are white collar, blue collar, degreed and not, many years of experience, just out of school, with families, alone, with lives they've had to just give up, lives that don't exist anymore in any way resembling "the old days" when they were proud to be employed.
We are grateful that a bill for the 99ers has been introduced. But I cannot physically fathom that you people are leaving, and leaving millions of needy people behind. By your return from your recess, there will be more Als who just. give. up.
Do you know what it's like to be penniless? I do. I've been.
Do you know what it's like to watch your loved one die from a brain injury? I do. I've watched.
His family members and close friend Bruce have been in agony since July 27 because you didn't do something to help this man in time.
Do the honorable thing tomorrow. Don't recess. Stay. Fulfill your moral obligation. And if you didn't know you had a moral obligation as a member of Congress, then maybe you ought to consider another career, perhaps as an accountant, something which makes you accountable for money, but unaccountable for lives worth saving and lives worth living.
Today we should all be mourning. This was a life lost. Al wasn't your constituent. He wasn't your statistic. He was a living, breathing, desperate human being.
How many more lives will be lost before other living, breathing, desperate human beings are helped? -

My husband and I are self employed and don't even have the option of receiving unemployment benefits (even though our business has failed due to the lousy economy) or disability benefits (my husband has been out of work due to injuries on the job in the past), even though we have been paying taxes for 35-40 years. Government is not interested in helping the hard working citizen or the small business owner. Their interest is in handing out entitlements to people who don't want to work.
We are on our own, except for the grace of God. -
Amy, the grace of God is the MOST wonderful place to be, isn't it!!

I read a Henry Blackaby book once in which he said "the bigger the problem, the more God is glorified". That is very true. -

Perhaps you are not in the street observing the massive layoffs & the lack of work...I dont know what would spur on such shameful comments...especially by a Christian.
I get to interact with these Wall Street types & believe me they are not sweating out the recession. Go to Pearl St & Maiden Lane & sit & watch the plethora of suits being picked up & dropped off by limo's each morning & afternoon as they summer in the Hampton's & Bermuda. They are still getting their ....cough, gag "Performances" Bonus's each year, unencumbered by the schleps who are outa work & loosing their homes, their savings, their health etc.
Brother, I would ask you to stop your apparent hatred for people down on their luck & start directing your energy & "hatred" if necessary at corporate politicians who are allowing this theft to continue, both Republican & Democrat. -
It is classical liberal thinking that the solution to all man's problems is yet another government program. These programs end up promising all sorts of things and delivering nothing but more enslavement of free people to a government that's viewed as their savior. The programs always fall short which only leads to demands for even more. They're riddled with abuse, corruption, and are highly inefficient.
If you want to help others in need do it through your Church or other agencies independent of government so that you can direct to whom, how much, and with what conditions your labors are devoted. You will then be much closer to the ills that others face and far more effective at tending to their earthly needs while witnessing to them for Christ. The latter will never happen through government!
The concept that anyone who opposes government charity is someone insensitive to the needs of others is nothing more than a time proven deceptive tactic of those who love big government.
Rethink your position, brother, lest you suffer for wealth envy and join the throngs of greedy people who wish to get something for nothing under the force of law. -
Especially in light of his faith.
I know several people in my Church that can carry on a lengthy conversation about Beck and Limbaugh, but concerning Jesus Christ, they have not much to say.
Isn't it better that we set our sights on the knowledge of Christ, and then examine the things of the world through that lens?
I have had people defend Beck's faith, and what he is doing, which, in my estimation, is a gradual acceptance of one's faith based upon something entirely different than sound doctrine, but more, because of an affection for the individual.
My prayer for Beck is that he will be brought to a knowledge of Christ to the point that he examines his affiliation with the "latter day saints," and hope that he is saved, but that he doesn't understand the "faith" he belongs to.
Not having television (I have one, but we do not have cable or satellite), I do not watch the television program (Glenn Beck), and am curious about your take on this.
I began tuning in to Beck at the start of the war, and frankly, I must admit that the impression that I get is that he is a showman, and I question his motives.
Don't go to hard on me, this is just my opinion.
I consider myself a Christian first, and after that, I admit that I consider myself conservative Republican, and I vote Republican.
God bless. -
