OK, here's another thwarted thread.
I have mixed feelings about Gossip...
Is sharing a legitimate prayer request Gossip?
In most cases I don't think so...
In my View Gossip has a general secretive "I'd Never Do or Need That" inherent attitude...
That is to say, the attitude of the heart of the person sharing is a big contributor to whether it is recieved as gossip or not...
I am not sure if it has anything to do with whether the information is second hand or not...
If I hear that 'x' has been injured in a car accident. 'x' goes to my church. And, I share with another that 'x' has been in a car accident...
It is the 'feeling' I leave the other person with that matters...
If I leave them with the feeling it was probably 'x's fault and he deserved it...
I'd call that gossip...
But, if I leave the other person with a concern for and an inclination to pray God's Hand of Love and Healing...
I wouldn't call that gossip...
Thoughts anyone?

BUMP
OK...
I am a bit perturbed...
You see I recieved a PM overnight and as far as I am concerned it was nothing but GOSSIP...
This is GOSSIP because of two or three things...
1. It is secretive in nature...
2. It puts other Board Members in a Bad Light...
3. I am not directly involved, AFAIK.
4. I can't do anything about the secret knowledge, anyway...
5. There was no legitimate or actionable prayer request or implication thereof...
This is a **GOOD** place to fellowship!
Why denigrate yourselves by stooping to the lowest common denominator of the WORLD?

....all rather pointless as I need tobe hit over the back of the head to be aware of such.
Having just done a 16 hour shift, I will notice only if you lay down in front of me dead because I shall trip over you.
God Bless the Kind of Heart. -
Amen SpiritualMadMan!
I, too, received a PM with nothing but gossip.
And I, too, am appalled!
Gossip is NEVER acceptable to the Lord and it shouldn't be acceptable to us, either.! -
I actually pm'd one of the moderators about it this morning as I got the same pm. It turns out every one must have got it.
Then I came to the board and found a whole can of worms just wriggling all over the place. -
If it is about someone else, then it's gossip, my pastor says if you aren't part of the solution or the problem stay out of it.
-
Gossip is always harmful to someone, and that is where it should not begin. We called it being a busybody in my days.
I always remember the late pianist, Liberace, when he visited Toronto. He was always smiling. He was walking down a main street when someone approached him and advised that he wouldn't be smiling if he heard all the rumours going round about him.
"Heard them," he said, "I started them!"
The essence of gossip is to get attention, and has nothing to do with the message conveyed.
Cheers,
Jim
PS..Have you heard the one about......................? -
First we have a flooder in the threads, then a flooder of the pm's.
It would behoove us to remember that the body has many members and that every joint supplieth. We need not carry gossip any further, but rather pray that the one doing the talebearing might have a change of heart toward a fellowbeliever.
I have a feeling it is the same person who was flooding the text the other day. Same people that were being attacked in the text (DonnA and Sue)are being attacked in the PM. Throws a red flag up. -
yep, I got it too and I dont appreciate being contacted with all this mess. Its so high schoolish!! I want to part fo it.

Any letter from a newbie that says this happened a long time ago on this board, did you know, or have you heard is likely to be gossip.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. {honest: or, venerable} -
Oh, I thought I was the only one.
-
Have a cartoon here somewhere of two ladies with one saying to the other "Guess who needs our prayers and why?" I think it's safe to say THAT is gossip
On the other hand just into this year someone told me a mate was crook (crook = sick, not crook = Richard M Nixon ;) ), so as soon as I could I rang the person concerned to get the full story straight from them.
So as you said Mike: Is sharing a legitimate prayer request Gossip?
In most cases I don't think so... -

LOL "Sorry, that member's private message mailbox is currently full. Please try sending your private message another time."
I bet! -
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: {unto...: Heb. of his soul} A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, {A proud...: Heb. Haughty eyes} An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
-
I just got a mysterious pm. All it contained was a bunch of gossip about other members.
-
JFox, if it was from LisaB, we all got it.
-
Yes, it was.
-
I didn't get the infamous PM....
....maybe my reputation as being someone who just doesn't care has it's good side after all? ;) -
wasn't worth reading anyway, Pete.
Just someone trying to sow discord among the brethren.
