I have a wide collection of several Bible translations.

My latest edition to my collection is the New English Bible (1973).

I wonder exactly what the translators were thinking when they translated Judges 1:14.

Following is their translation of Judges 1:14 (I put asterisks where one word was because I could not post otherwise):

"When she came to him, he incited her to ask her father for a piece of land. As she sat on the ***, she broke wind, and Caleb said, 'What did you mean by that?'"

This is about as far off as one can get. I mean, to tranlate 'dismounted' into 'broke wind' is mind-boggling.

    Isn't that a gas?

Yeah. I'd say that translation stinks.
