I can't really do an all time because the game changes with each era. An effective style in one era may not have been as effective in another. i like the old greats like Papa Bear Bryant, Shula etc... Walsh deffinately ranks among the best in my book. -
"Papa Bear Bryant"? You seem to be confusing 2 different coaches there, one of whom did not coach in the NFL
-
Paul Brown. Revolutionized the game as we know it today.
-
Wayne Fontes.
-
I about fell out of my chair laughing at that one, Andy!
Bill Walsh has to be at least in the Top 5. He won multiple championships, his short-passing attack changed the game (it shouldn't be called the West Coast Offense btw) and several Super Bowl winning coaches.
In no particular order, I think my top 5 would be George Halas, Paul Brown, Don Shula, Bill Walsh and Vince Lombardi. -
Tom Landry.
Bill Walsh would be in the top five. -
-
Don Shula
I also agree with Tom Landry
ooops that was 2...
BTW, who is Bill Walsh.... LOL -
-
Weeb Eubank

I don't have a huge problem with Landry in the list, but who do you take out of the Top 5 to add him? Here are the candidates so far.
George Halas
Don Shula
Bill Walsh
Vince Lombardi
Paul Brown
Chuck Noll
Tom Landry
Sorry, Andy, Wayne Fontes doesn't make the cut. -

I didn't know that Weeb won more than 1 championship. I thought he had only 1 with the Jets.
I arbitrarily chose to make a list of Top 5. Maybe there are enough coaches with an equal list of accomplishments that a list of 5 just isn't enough. -
I think just the mental image of Wayne Fontes tends to make one laugh. Such a jolly fellow. If nothing else, he was a fun coach.
I think all the top greats have been mentioned. Here are some honorable mentions that would be candidates for slots 10-20:
Curly Lambeau (probably among the greats - look at his record)
Joe Gibbs
Bill Parcells (I think he tends to be overrated - the media adores him)
Bill Bellicheck (Is it too early or does he need a few more years?)
Mike Shanahan (Too early?)
Mike Holmgren (Too early?)
Bill Cowher (Too early? will he get another job?)
John Madden (Short but brilliant career)
Marv Levy (Incredible run with no rings)
Hank Stram (Keep metriculating down the field, fellas!) -
Tom Landry for sure. He had class and dignity. I do not remember anything unholy said about Tom.

Also Bill Wlash

I also think if Bill Walsh had stayed with the 49ers into the 1990s and won a couple more Superbowls he would be the greatest ever. I think he would be in my top 3.
Joe Gibbs is up there, and if he could find a way to win a Superbowl this go around he would jump up a lot.
As for other current coaches I think Bill Belicheck in NE has to be in consideration as well, and I think when his career is over he maybe in the top 5 all time. -
I would put Landry over shula as Landry was an innovater - the Flex D
Walsh was also an innovater with his west coast offense. Just making a super bowl or championship in my mind does not make a top anything (other than having the best players-jimmy johnson) Chuck noll also falls into the great players but no innovation. Brown and Halas were great coaches for thier time but also great innovators.
