John Leland, for his advocacy of religious liberty in America
William Carey, for his contribution to missions
John Smyth and Thomas Helwys, for their role in the rise of English Baptists
Those are just a few. -
I would include a closetsized Hall of Fame for proto-baptists which has 2 members, Menno Simons and John the Baptist.
I would include a small Hall of Shame of Baptist History featuring among others Jack Chick.
If the Hall of Fame is going to include a secular section featuring folks with great accomplishments who happened to be baptists I would include Martin Luther King, if the secular section is really large I would include all baptists who ever became POTUS. -

Except as far as we have been able to determine, Jack Chick may be many things (including a Christian we will see in Heaven) but he is not a Baptist.
-
The general assumption is that he is.

I simply assumed it was (is?) true. -

Without drilling deeply into the wikipedia links, to the best of my knowledge, Mr. Chick is part of what in these United States is called "The Bible Church" movement. And I would put him on the far right of that movement. Other than the label, sometimes one is hard put to distinguish between the movements. John MacArthur is a good example of a "Bible Church" man.

There are several such citations on the Web, but I have found no definitive source.
His statement of faith would fit with any number of Baptist churches, and Baptist ministers seem to show up in many Web tales of Chick — often as debunkers of his stories. (Like Alberto.) -

Interesting that we started out with a Baptist History Hall of Fame and we had two posts and then it was highjacked with a single negative comment. How about Charles Haddon Spurgeon, probably one of the greatest English Baptists.
-
I would have Leland, Helwys and Spurgeon on my list, and would add John Clarke and some folks to be named later.
-
Al Mohler.
-
George Truitt, Herchal Hobbs, W.A. Criswell and...Paige Patterson (History is history).
-
William Kiffin, John Bunyan, John Gill, Andrew Fuller, Roger Williams.
-
Mohler and Patterson seem too recent, IMO.

Jesus, The Christ; John the Baptist, the apostles, Paul, all those who have fulfilled Jude 3--a multitude without names in "history", yet their names are written in the "Lamb's Book of Life"--from eternity.
That is the eternal Hall of Fame--any other "halls" will melt with fervent heat.
Praise God, He has kept a remnant.

On a positive note, I'll nominate Francis Weyland, B. Myron Cedarholm, and Monroe Parker. -

I think Circuitrider is referring to my first post not yours . Not that I (or you for that matter) intentionally tried to derail the thread. -

-
I know Squire, I know.

Sounds like a good nominee to me.
