Has the KJVO movement Hijacked the IFB

With the exception of very very few IFB churches they all seem to be KJVO now.I don't know that any exists in Spokane or the whole stae of Washington for that matter.

I can only speak for Northern California. While we do have our share of KJVO churchs, most of our "IFB" churchs are rooted in the Historic Nothern Baptists as typified by Arno Q. (Sr.) and G. Archer Wenigar and others affiliated with the (now defunct) San Francisco Baptist Seminary.

Like anything else: If they are not reaching people they will die. If they do not love people they will die. If they do not love God they will die.

Yes, I find that an interesting oxymoron, since single-translation-onlyism is not a fundamental doctrine. Requiring it as a doctrinal belief is contrary to the "F" in IFB.

Thats what the I is for. Personally, I don't believe we would disfellowship someone who came to our church and carried an NIV with them, but I suspect they would either quietly convert, or leave on their own.

There is an attempt by some to hijack the "IFB" label and add KJVO to the definition.

The fact that it is an extra-biblical doctrine necessitates resistance to it.

Ah, well maybe you should have trademarked it before it got out of hand.

Then come out here to Northern California and San Francisco specifically and help us. The fields are white unto harvest.

Squire,

We have a Field Office in San Francisco. When I travel, and it is going to cover a weekend, then I find a church to attend. While in San Francisco, around 1997, I attended Hamilton Square. Enjoyed the service.

Now back to the topic. I was attending an SBC church for a number of years, and we were using the NIV. Then attended a Lutheran Church (LCMS) for three years. Enjoyed the fellowship, but still could not find what I was seeking. Granted, I did not know what I was seeking. Visited an IFB on its first Sunday (2001), took my family there the second Sunday, and we have been there since. The church is KJVO. I found what I was looking for, and I know that it has greatly helped me with my family. I can only speak of my personal experience. I pray that all churches can do for theirs, what mine has done for me.

God bless....

Almost all of the Independant Baptist churches in my neck of the woods (SE Tennessee) are KJVO. Thankfully, they are small and typically ingrown ("us four and no more").

I know it sounds harsh, but I do pray that they stay that way.

In Christ,

In Wyoming, we have about 90 SBC and 90 IFB churches, along with a handful of ABC and CBA.

20 tops would be mixed up in the only sect. They are vocal and would want you to think they are the only ones.

Nationwide I would suggest not 25% of historically independent fundamental Baptists would have any toleration for the only sect's false and divisive teaching.

Again I think we see some difference of opinion as to what a KJVO church is. Every IFB church I know of around us (western NC) preaches from the KJV. If you carry your NIV into those churches you may feel a bit different, but I doubt if anyone would say anything contrary to you.

However, there is a minority of those churches (I would guess less than 25%) that are hard boiled KJVO. They would preach that your NIV is a perversion written by Satan himself, and that you can't get saved unless you have KJV in your hand. There is a big difference between the these groups.

BTW, we joined a new church Sunday. It is independent and uses the KJV, but is not what I would call KJVO.

James - a KJV preferred who rejects all others is called an ONLY.

Just thought I should point this out!
