Never been blamed for doing so, so I can't answer question 2.
-
what difference does it make if it is a message of salvation that captivates the listener that they may understand the message, that they give their life to Christ?
so what if the message is not original as long as the message is the message of the Gospel? -
Never been blamed.

Seems that this matter has become "front page news" in pastoral circles today. I am not sure the problem is as problematic as it is presented to be. I would question the integrity of the preacher who has access to the internet and yet says he has never used another man's sermon(s), or, at least another man's sermon ideas. Pre-www days saw us preachers scooping up all those "dollar sermon" outline books...can't remember exactly what they were called. We have all waited in anticipation for the next Criswell book of sermons. Back then it did not seem to be an issue.
I must confess...I often use other men's titles or their main points in a sermon. However, I try to do as I have heard Jerry Vines say, "It is okay to milk a lot of different cows, but just be sure you churn your own butter."
While attending a recent statewide pastors' conference I listened to a sermon preached by the pastor of one of the most prominent churches in our state. The main points in the message were the same ones I had heard Jerry Vines use in a message over 15 years ago. Did that bother me? Absolutely not. The man preached with power, and he preached not just from his head, but from his heart.
Do any of you preachers really believe that your church members see every sermon you preach as an "original" masterpiece? Fact is, they probably have known for a long time that we need all the help we can get...that we don't spend 30 of our weekly work hours coming up with totally original sermons. Amen? -
Most internet sermons---belong in "The Valley of Dry Bones!!!" Yes, I've been accused---but the accusation was and always will be a lie!
Now, admittedly---I do know for a fact that Dr. Vines offers stuff over the internet---but it costs "Bula-bula" $$$$$$ to download---He don't mind though, if we take his sermons and "improves" them!!!
And Adrian Rogers says if his bullets fit in your gun---load 'um and shoot!!!! Just be sure to hit what you're aimin' at!!!!
Then I toured the late great Dr. Stephen Olford's study library---his son, David, showed us the manuscripts held in looseleaf binders and said, "One day we plan on publishing these manuscripts!!"---and I just blurted out---"HURRY!!!"

Most of the time, my sermons are ideas that were planted in my heart from other messages that I have heard. Messages in the Bible. Messages from the radio. Messages from pulpits. Messages from my people. Messages from the lost. Messages from the world. I hope they are all messages that the Lord has brought to me for a special purpose and need for that day. I have repreached sermons in other churches, does this mean that I am troubled or out of touch with my responsibility and calling? I think not. I am praying for the day that the Lord gives me the liberty to pastor again.

Oh I forgot.....sometimes....sometimes I get a real extra special one that burns and burns and burns until delivery. What a thrill and wonderful experience. I got one about Paradise...ya want to hear it? Ha! It is in those kind that I forget who I am and where I am and who may be listening and I loose track of time and space, I guess you just hafta have been there. Thank God he still uses lowly people who are absolutely worthless without Him. Go Get 'em Blackbird.

I pray with you--for you, Pastor Bart!! God bless you and have a Merry Christmas!!
USN2Pulpit---smolderin' "rags" burn the hottest, boy!! Preach it to us here!!! -
Let us always remember as one Pastor was fond of saying: "Don't think that you are the only preacher God has ever spoken to."
If God burns a message in your heart, it may be a sin not to share it! -
Solomon said there is no new thing under the sun.
That's where we get in trouble....trying to invent some new things! -

I have used RBP SS material for years in teaching teen and adults classes, but I have almost always developed mine own outline and selected content from their material. There is no excuse for preaching another's message verbatim except laziness. -
I have gotten ideas from others, but tried to do my own research. I don't trust others to show me what God will.

A pastor who has to think about what to preach is like a starving junk yard dog.
Anyone who spends time with God will never lack for material to preach. He will not have enough hours in a day for the rest of his life to preach all the wealth of information the Bible contains.
