If so, do you think this film has anything to say to a Christian audience?
Have you seen this film?

Never heard of the movie. Could you give a brief synopsis?

It's a documentary about Calcutta's "red light district".
Particularly, it's about the children whose mothers are prostitutes. The two film-makers even give the children cameras and show them how to use them so that part of the documentary can explore the lives of these children that wouldn't be seen otherwise.
It's admirable, as far as exposing the wretched lives of these children and the fact that they have NO other choice but to follow their mothers into prositution.
But one has to wonder, did the film-makers do anything to help these children and these women, for that matter, other than to expose their miserable existences?
Will people who view the documentary be moved to do something or just moved enough to say, "Isn't that a shame"?
Was giving these children cameras of their own an exploitive move by the film-makers or defensible because they brought their lives to the world? -

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I agree with Scarlett. It's not that I'm discompassionate. Please don't assume.
My question is also, will we be stirred to action, or will we sit in our convenient pews and do nothing? I pray that it's the first. If the movie is intended to stir people to action, then I'm for it. If it's meant to just present this situation and not do anything about it, that's when I said I want nothing to do with it. -
It's hard to say how people will react. Different people will have different reactions. The film is not propaganda; it doesn't have a didactic message; it is a secular documentary, but it would be hard to walk away from this film without being moved.
I watched this film with a group of college aged students. After the showing a missionary from India fielded questions for about 45 minutes. Several in the audience were moved sufficiently enough to want continued contact with the missionary to learn more about mission opportunities in India. -
That's awesome!

I would like to see this film. Is it available for viewing currently on DVD?
I'm sorry to say that I know little of this nation. Sadder to say that I have one very dear friend that is from there and I still know little of his nation. From what I've read, India is up and coming in some aspects....far surpassing the U.S. in many instances.
I would think a film such as this could inspire missionaries and people such as Oprah (don't laugh) to help. ???????

One caveat--some Christians who are easily offended or want to barricade themselves from the ugly truths of our world may find the film offensive. -
No need to worry there. I am not easily offended. If we hide ourselves from the truth of life....then we can't help. I'm a teacher and I yearn for more knowledge.
Thanks for sharing. I hate that it took a film for anyone to take notice, but perhaps the film is serving it's purpose.
