For my cousins across the pond, that's the equivalent of the Military Cross.

I am not familiar enough with the story to comment specifically, but I generally think this is a good idea.

Sin has been described as being bent in on oneself, and I think that's a good way to describe it. If it is, then it's antithesis is being other-focused. Righteousness is living life favoring the other. When we live, by God's grace, in such a way, we are sometimes honored by men, but if not, we certainly will be honored by God.

And now I’m reading how the deputy didn’t enter the building. He has resigned.

It has come out today that the Sheriff's Deputy assigned as the school resource officer hid outside the school instead of going in and confronting the shooter. Coward.

Are you certain of how you would have reacted, in his place?

That has no bearing on the plainly exhibited cowardice of that deputy. For 20 years or so, the standard response has been to confront and stop the threat. The previous response of seek cover and return fire should be a distant memory.

How I would react in this situation is immaterial as I am not a law enforcement officer. He was and part of his job is to run to the sound of the gunfire, not remain in place, especially at a school where every one inside are sitting ducks.. Due to the severity of this case, I would say that dereliction of duty charges should be considered by the controlling authority.

I just read a bit ago that 4, yes I said 4, Broward County deputies were on scene and did not go in. This was reported by Coral Gables police personnel who arrived on scene and saw County deputies holding in position behind cars. They reportedly did not follow the Coral Gables police into the school, but remained outside. The Broward County Sheriff has some explaining to do.

It doesn’t help the “arm the teachers” narrative when the cops won’t even intervene. I’m now supposed to believe that the Algebra teacher is supposed to turn into Bruce Willis at the sound of gunfire?

There is a big difference between entering a building with an active shooter and already being in the building with the shooter.

You called the man a "coward", then you fail to attempt to put yourself in his shoes. . .

I do not know what the man did or what went through his mind. He may have acted in a cowardly manner, but, not many people run in front of AR-15s easily.

Also, unassisted, a single person, likely never trained for that type of situation, running into the path of an AR-15, might not have been the best way to proceed.

Util more details come to light, I don't think we can find him guilty of cowardice.

No man runs into the line of fire of an AR instinctively, and no deputy is likely trained to the level where he would.

Going from standing around for a decade or two seeing no more action than a mall cop, to running into the line of fire is a lot to ask of any man.

Two unpaid, regular guys went after the shooter in Texas. I can't see why I'd expect less from somebody on the payroll.

I don't completely disagree with that expectation.
