I don't go to the beach, but I still see plenty of flesh even in the grocery store.

Pastor Lynn,
Boy did I have you pegged! our birthdays are less than 30 days apart. My wife thinks I'm nuts. I love those old time radio and tv shows. As a matter of fact I listen to old time radio daily. -
Well I'm 54 and I remember those shows and agree with y'all! We still watch a lot of the old shows because there's so much filth on t.v.
Granny, I'm actually embarassed by some of the young mothers I see in the store with saggy bellies, stretch marks galore. Their shirts are too short and their pants are below their belly buttons. Ug! -

Loved Hee Haw. Wish I could take the time to watch it now. Back when country music was music.
Hagar Twins, Buck Owens, Roy Clark playing the heck outta anything with strings on it.......
And what was that long-eared Hound dog's name ?
"Well we're not the type to go 'round spredin' rumers...
Really we're just not the gossippin' kind...
Oh you'll never hear any of us repeatin' gossip...
So you better be sure n listen close the first time....." -
I really do not like "country," but my husband does, and we watched quite often.
My favorite part of the show was Grady Nutt. Remember him? First "Christian humor" performer that I know of. -
Just for the record, Curtis, did you think it was funny sing a lie..."We're not ones to go around spreadin' rumors..." then put a rumor into song ?
I liked the "Gloom, despair, and agony on me..." song, in spite of their appearance of being bombed in front of the still.
Hee Haw never had a "blooper reel" because they were one of the first to include the bloopers anyway. Nah, there were probably worse things on film that they never showed. -
Debby, Grady was a regular on the show & a SBC pastor. They sometimes had Jerry Clower on as a special guest. Jerry was a strong Christian and deacon in the FBC of Yazoo City, Ms. Jerry was doing Christian comedy long before Grady. Both were great. I may be mistaken but I believe Grady was killed in a private plane crash. Anybody know for sure or am I wrong about that?

PastorLynn--you're right! Nutt was killed in a plane crash---Jerry Clower passed away a couple of years ago after heart surgery--a 7 by-pass!!
Clower and his wife had moved to Liberty before he passed away! After his passing, His wife, Homerleene---was part of a Pastor Search committee from East Fork Baptist in Liberty---I talked with her over the phone in initial contact with me--but nothing came out of me going to East Fork! -
That's right Blackbird. I remember Jerry saying he lived at Rt.4, Liberty, Ms. & talking about East Fork. When I was at the cemetary ,,,,err seminary he came & did a show in the auditorium that was being taped for TV. All the students & their spouses were admitted free.

Its funny, but I watched the very first episode in 1969 and the scantly dressed ladies were not there. They only had a few women and none dressed like they did later on in the show. I guess they saw an opportunity to use sex to increase their ratings even more. I guess it worked.

Has anyone ever ventured to add up the grand total of income earned by the media (films, TV, DVD, etc.) by stereotyping the South?
Which region actually profits the most by this?
Can you name any other region of the US that
1) has contributed more to the GDP of the US by allowing it to be so stereotyped?
2) would, year after year, continually allow it to be so stereotyped?
3) has such a universal mass market appeal due to its stereotyping?
I'm just curious if anyone knows of any scientic polling/research has ever been published on any of the above (or closely related) subjects.
