That's because the battle isn't really over inerrancy at all.
There are at least 4 definitions of inerrancy and many of the SBC leaders accept one in public and another in private.
The battle is about polical power and the takeover of the SBC.

That's my take as well, and I have no dog in this fight. I grew up in SBC churches (God bless them) and attend a SBC church, but I no longer consider myself SBC. The church may cooperate, but I no longer have allegiance to the SBC.
The BGCT is, in my opinion, the direct successor of the old SBC. The CBF is, like the UCC, is a convenient associational convenience. The new SBC is something that I am not familiar with. It appears to want to be a "real" denomination.
What this means? I have no idea. Stay tuned.
