The Supreme Court is taking up a long-running legal fight over a cross honoring World War I soldiers that has stood for 75 years on public land in a remote part of California.http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/07/high-court-takes-case-cross-public-land/

SCOTUS will rule in favor of the cross remaining. It will rule that the cross is a secular memorial, not a government endorsement or religion.

It is not secular neither does it establish a religion.

I never said the cross was secular. I said that in this case, the court will rule that the use of the cross is as a secular memorial, not as an endorsement of religion.

When one realizes that this situation was resolved amicably 5 years ago, when the land the cross is on became private land, that this is not really about a religious symbol on public land, it's about a religious symbol on public display.
That wasn't good enough for Christ haters, so a rogue court invalidated the transfer.
And here we are. -
What a stupid issue to bring before the court.
-
That's actually something I agree with. I don't like the idea of the governmet having to privatize every swath of land that has a display that can be construed as religious. Can you imagine having to privatize the USS Arizona memorial? -
The hakenkreuz became secular when the socialiats adopted it.

If someone raises a cross in the desert and no one knows, does it make a difference?
Only in Washington. -
If I argue with my wife in the desert and no one hears me, am I still wrong?

There are many crosses, (I don't know if they are on private land but given the way things are here, it is most probable), just about everywhere along any stretch of highway here in Texas. Most people do not even notice them.
There is a huge one on a hill near Van Horn. There is a huge one on the road from Rankin to Midland. (Those from these parts from Texas will know where I'm talking about.)
There are many more that I know of here.
But you are right CTB, it seems no one cares unless they can get noticed from their 'offense' to it.
Sad. -
