That is awesome! I'm thankful for the safety.
Why don't we have the right to know though, especially after the fact? I'd like for my loved ones to be able to make informed decisions about where they go, what they choose to do, etc. with safety concerns factored in. -
The FBI has a history of "rescuing" us from their own plots.

FBI HEAD: TERROR PANIC IS THE “NEW NORMAL”
FBI head James Comey said Thursday that the Bureau now considers the heightened state of terror alert and increased police presence in major cities enacted for the July 4th holiday as the “new normal”.
Speaking with reporters at FBI Headquarters, Comey said that bulletins issued by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security warning of possible terror activity timed to the holiday were prompted by the “overall threat” posed by ISIS and other extremists, commenting “This is sort of the new normal.”
Comey warned that “dozens” of suspected ISIS recruits inside the U.S. have “gone dark”, and are eluding FBI surveillance by using encrypted communications.

The FBI and Department of Justice on Wednesday targeted a new set of threats to national security and law enforcement: not ISIS, or pedophiles, but Apple and Google.
Those companies and others that provide or will soon provide end-to-end encryption make it impossible to read intercepted digital messages — and without naming names, FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Attorney General Sally Quillian Yates said that they will “work with” those companies to ensure access to their customers’ communications.

So this isn't really about protecting us at all. It's about scaring us into giving the government all the powers the constitution denies it. -
Undoubtedly you heard the loud warnings from government about ISIS terror threats over this past Fourth of July… kinda spooky, right?
But when nothing happened you went on with your fireworks and BBQ grill, perhaps dubious of fear mongerers in Washington (always at it) but ultimately content that no serious mischief took place.
But think again… if the FBI can be believed, it was no false threat. It was terrorism stopped in its tracks, by our loving watchers.
And they didn’t just foil one plot… director James Comey insists it was multiple DEADLY attempts to kill that were thwarted. Independence Day was saved.
According to the Daily Mail:

Of course, Comey doesn’t claim his G-men stopped all these fantastic plots just ahead of the Fourth.
Rather, he takes credit for rounding up the usual ISIS suspects over the last four months… that’s what saved America’s most beloved patriotic holiday.

It's the one thing they're really good at. -
FBI Director Comey Demands “Backdoor” Access to Encrypted Data
In a stepped up effort to provide government spies with “backdoor” access to privately encrypted information, FBI Director James B. Comey gave testimony on July 8 to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and—along with Deputy Attorney General Sally Quillian Yates—to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
In a prepared speech titled “Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence and the Challenges of Going Dark,” Comey argued that US laws should be updated to give the FBI, NSA and CIA special access mechanisms into all forms of data and electronic communication. “Going dark” refers to the inability of the state to monitor the communications of those who use encryption or other modern Internet privacy protection techniques.
In his joint statement with Yates to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Comey said, “Our goal at the Department is to work collaboratively and in good faith with interested stakeholders to explore approaches that protect the integrity of technology and promote strong encryption to protect privacy, while still allowing lawful access to information in order to protect public safety and national security.” In other words, the FBI and Obama administration want to establish a legal and technical framework—with the support of Congress and powerful corporate interests—to further undermine democratic rights by breaking into widely used security methods with special access technologies.

Scared yet?
Give us more power! Give us more control! Or the terrorists will get you!
Booga booga booga!
