Featured How do you address a priest?

    Roman Catholic and Episcopal priests often are addressed as "Father"
    If you speak to a priest - would you call him "Father"?

    Some will say Matt 23:9 says we should not.

    That's what I would have said 50 years ago - when I was young, dumb and stupid.
    But now that I am more mature and wiser - I would basically say the same thing - but much more tactfully. ---
    Exactly what - well, first I need that link what RC say about the title Father.......

    Negative - that Lutheran Army Chaplain was not too happy what I had said to him

    and I have learned quite a bit over those 50 years.

    and "thanks" to that Lutheran - I leaned a lot more about Baptists and I had the opportunity to worship in an Air Force Chapel with a Bible believing Methodist Chaplain."

    And No I am not going to "report" your for that totally unnecessary statement about me.
    I just figure that that you will..............

    I'm not so keen calling another person "Reverend". It just seems too often ministers want to be revered or set above the brethern than be considered one of the brethern (while also an "overseer").

    I wonder what they called Paul? I am sure they just called Him Paul. Same with Peter.

    If he prefers pastor I would say paster (name)

    I would not call anyone father. I have 2 fathers, My earthly and my heavenly and if I was asked to call someone father that is what I would say

    I see calling a man "Reverend" as a sign of respect.
    Now, if he demands it - that is one thing -'
    But in this day and age - I do see a general lack of showing respect.

    I kinda agree. But I tend to see respect as something earned while courtesy is something given.

    In your first post you insinuated the same about me. You said it, I just restarted it as a question about you. Sometimes wisdom comes with age. Sometimes weakness, compromise, and less willingness to fight that comes with age gets mistaken for wisdom.
    Are Lutheran Pastors and Methodist pastors "Father's"? Never heard a Methodist called Father. I knew two Lutheran Pastors pretty good at one time. Never heard them called Father, but I never attended a service either.
    Catholicism is a false religion. It's not comparable to Lutherans and Methodists.

    In N.E. Ga. "Rev" is not disrespectful.
    There is one guy I went to school with that now wants to be called "apostle". I do call him "Rev" in such a way he knows it is an insult but in general "rev" is respectful.

    I know of only one clergy member that I called Reverend. Reverend Harkins the long-time pastor of my childhood UP church. For many years he pastored the only non-RCC church in town.

    "Reverend" is extremely uncommon here as well. "Rev" is very common.

    I do not.

    I only referred to my biological father as my father, and since I am married, my father-in-law has demonstrated the love and support that earns the title.

    I don't have that many interactions with Catholic priests, but when I do, I refer to them as "Pastor." It is an honorable title, and one which I hope they live up to.
