Then you need some sort of player. I use a radio shack CTR-120 cat.no. 14-1127
it costs about 30 dollars.
You will need to run a wire from your player ear phone jack to your mic jack of your computer. Be sure that you have an adapter for stereo if you want that feture. The people at radio shack can help you if you tell them what you are going to do.
Now all you have to do is copy the tape into the media pro and then burn it to a CD. By the way you do have to control the volume output on the player and it really needs to be very low volume or you will get distortion. The media player will copy it in wave and you can edit it to what ever you want or leave it as a wave file. I hope this helps. -
Gayla,
Yeah, I think it is a pretty cool site as well. Now if I could only get my wife to let me use the credit card...
Oh well...it's probably better, because I can find a lot of nifty things on there.

I could kick myself, Audacity was the one I meant to post, not CDex.
Yep, you should be able to record it ok with Audacity and right plugs/connections. -
I tried to download CDex and it would not work . . .so, I downloaded Audacity lst night with no problem.
I got a cord/cable/wire (take your pick) with a 1/8" jack on each end at Best Buy for $7.49. Now I just have to try it!!
Once I record it, do I save in Audacity or Windows Media Player (or Real Player)? The tracks will have to be in Media Player or Real Player to be put on the CD anyhow. -
Gayla, Jim burns CD's for bands as a master for mass production. He's done one for some woman and he's doing a Praise Band this weekend.
I'm sure what you're doing will be fine for what you need.
Diane -
Diane's correct, Gayla. I'm a perfectionist since my engineering degree is in broadcast.
Jim Tavegia -
Wahoo! Jim makes an appearance!
Jim, you must be a true saint, seeing as what you have to put up with...
Luv ya, Diane! -
Cleveland's NOT that FAR Trotter! Don't make me come UP there! LOL, Like I'd drive past Thorton Road.
He's in the kitchen with a soldering iron or I'd make him come defend me! -
[shaking in his boots]Oh no, the short lady is gonna get me. Help, someone protect my ankles!
Jim must be a perfectionast, Diane...he married you. -
-
Gayla, sounds like so far so good Just save the file in any folder, and browse to the folder when you go to burn... (I think that would work )

First of all, what OS are you running? I own a computer based studio and I deal with this kind of thing all the time. I personally use Pro Tools to do this which is the industry standard program for recording studios. There is a free version if you are running Windows 98 or Me but it never ran well there. It also has a Mac version (which I use) Late model Macs atually come with all of the software and hardwar to do this very well but if you are "stuck" :) with Windows, as I used to be...either try Pro Tools Free (www.digidesign.com) or you could try db poweramp. Audacity is ok as well.
PLease give the specs of your computer if you could...
This would need to be Processor type (and speed if you can)
Amount of RAM and OS and version
for most versions of Windows, you can right click on the my computer icon and select "properties" from there you should be able to find all of this information. -
Oh, also for burning CDs, use iTunes, it is by far the easiest. It is available for Windows 2000 and XP as well as any late version of the Mac OS.
If you don't have 2000 or Win XP, you really should upgrade. -
Gayla, check this out.

Dale, I have XP. Will check out iTunes.
Diane, I will check out the site as soon as I post this reply -
Once you get the song saved as an Mp3 or a wav, drag it over the itunes window and then it will become part of the itunes library....
there is a little "+" at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window. ...I need to run now but if you decide to download it and need more help. let me know.
