While chatting w/ a friend over prohibition, it occured to me that porn stars are essentially payed to have sex.
Granted, it's public sex as a form of "expression", but they're still payed to perform sexual acts.
Everyone (mostly) agrees that porn is protected speech, so how is prostitution not legal?
It seems that only closeted acts of prostitution are illegal but selling one's body to online lovers is perfectly fine.
Would someone care to explain how flagrancy = legality?
Or, would someone care to explain how porn stars are not prostitutes?
Seems to me prostitution is only legal if you have it in front of the whole world, but relatively private prostitution is prosecuted.
Why?
I agree porn isn't art, carpro.
It's a precarious argument some use and I think it's silly.
But regardless of whatever else it is, porn *appears* to be legal prostitution.
If I pay Woman A $30 to have sex with me in my bedroom we could both go to jail.
If Playboy payed us both $3,000 to have sex together in front of a camera neither of use would be punished.
First of all, private acts should not be criminal. I am with the Libertarians on this one. Secondly, Playboy doesn't produce hard core porn, but I get your point.
So, I guess when you hire that woman, set up a video cam! :tonofbricks:
It's very seldom I find myself on the same side as 'feminists,' but I have known cases in which they protested or petitioned for the legalization of prostitution. I'm still not saying that's my position, but this subject does bring up a valid point... if a woman performs sex for a magazine or movie studio, it is 'legal;' but if she does it personally, where only she gets the benefits ($$) from it, then it's illegal (in most places I know of). If that is a feminist argument, it's hard to deny the reasoning.
Only in certain counties. Also, legal or not, it will always be there, as whenever there is a market for goods or services, someone will always be willing to meet the demand.
With all due respect, Sir, I think there's a language barrier here.
None of us here want to see someone take up prostitution.
We're simply discussing the legality of it. :)
Correct!
Individual counties and/or municipalities can vote on whether or not to allow this.
Much as a "local option" such as we have in KY regarding leaglized alcohol sales, and what forms are allowed, and under which certain conditions and regulations.
BTW, it is also technically legal in some forms in Rhode Island, and basically legal under certain restrictions and regulations in much of Canada and Mexico.
The question asked in the OP is not as to the morality, meaning whether or not
"Is it good for me?", but rather "How is prostitution not already legal?"
I merely answered and posted to this.
Ivon Denosocich is correct in that I am certainly not advocating this practice or definitely not such a 'lifestyle', by any stretch.
