but you look at his wife and bless her heart, she looks like she was dressed off the clearance rack at wal-mart.
1st tim 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
what's wrong with buying clothes at wal-mart?

Bt lets just wait and let her explain it hreself, shes the one who knows what she was thinking.
You know what I don't care about grrek scholars(men) but God alone.
I have used scripture after scripture in this very same argument over and over, and no one so far over the last year that I've waited has proven that scripture wrong. When good bible study is used you just can't get that from it. -

I tell you what, let's all make this into a contest!! Everyone dress the way they deem appropriate in this life and when we get to heaven let's count rewards and see how many has the most!! Won't that be fun??

I have some pants (they have been called various other names over the years) but when worn they look like a skirt, but they are divided into separate coverings for the legs. They are long, lose and flowing.
Further my dictionary's definition of apparel:
clothing, garments; attire: anything that clothes or adorns.
I don't see any reason for anyone to take the challenge.
The post was started in fun about men's apparel, but some seem to have taken it very seriously and then turned it into what women should wear.
If a woman wants to wear a dress, then wear a dress. If she wants to wear pants, then wear pants. The Bible tells us to dress modestly and not wear men's clothing. I guarantee that my husband would not wear the pants that I wear.
Nor would I ever wear his pants.
Lighten up folks and have some fun.
I'm still looking for Veggie Tale ties that clip on.
Furthermore, I like for our pastor to dress well and look nice and I know that members of his congregation have given him money to buy expensive suits. -
Dear Thankful,
The dictionary that I was referring to is an Expository Dictionary of Biblical words. It is called, "Vines Expository Dictionary." It has the meaning of the words as they are written in the Bible. Modern dictionaries are different than these type of dictionaries. Most church libraries carry books like these. -
The pants I wear come from a women's clothing catalog, they are not men's clothing. If you think they are, I challenge any man here to wear them to church next week, or to work, or anywhere in public.
Let me know if you want to wear my men's clothing. -
Back in the '70s, they used to sell tie patterns. I
was the author of the crazy tie back then, and my
husband, a grocer, wore them with delight. The
first one I made for him was from fabric which
had vegetables all over it. He loved it -- it was
really crazy then!
The second I made was a plain blue light-weight
denim tie with a HUGE applique of bright red lips
with a huge tongue protruding. He hesitated but
wore it and got a lot of laughs.
There were many others, including one with a
zippered pocket in front, on the bottom half, but
the idea is that if youu can't find a tie you want,
create it! Last time I checked, there were not
patterns for them, but you can go to the Goodwill
and buy an ugly clip-on. You will be able to use
it for a pattern, and you will get the clip.
Make a couple prototypes, though, before you try
to make that one he will wear. -
Thank you, HCL. We do have the Vines dictionary in our home library and I also researched in my Holmon's dictionary. This is the definition of garments worn in Biblical times.
This reminds me of the story of when the Christians from New England who wore long woolen dresses went to Hawaii as missionaries and thought that the people should wear the same woolen garments in the tropics. ;)
If you believe that you should wear dresses all the time, then I believe that it is wonderful to follow your convictions.
I know that I wear dresses more than I wear pants. Usually I wear pants to work or play in, but I see nothing wrong with it nor do I see anything wrong with wearing dresses all the time.
Thank you again for explaining your definition. -

Yes, what Aaron said was exactly what I meant.
-
Actually, I don't care if guys wear shorts to church--it doesn't bother me, but, as with the women, they need to be of decent length and, like their jeans or other slacks they wear, should not be fitted snugly in their cheeks region.

Or is it that if a man lust after a woman it's her fault,a nd if a woman lusts after a man it's hr fault? Which is what i seem to eb gtting from this conversation. Just want it clarified. -
I have not found any verses on that subject. Perhaps you or someone else has one. I know Aaron listed the verse about Eve taking the fruit because of the lust of the eyes.

I spent some time this evening looking up the 'apparel' thing. Here:

i don't know if the Bible says anything about dress requirements of men but they must not be naked. (And Bible nakedness doesn't mean absolutely no clothes at all. )
but the Bible does talk about a woman's lust! Potiphar's wife for Joseph!!
Genesis 39:7-8 And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; -

You were addressing the first question which is why a man's mode of dress is seldom talked about.
Yes, men have responsibility to dress properly as well.
The primary reason that the body is to be covered is to protect it from the lustfull gaze of sinful men. I am not responsible for what is in someone elses heart however, I am responsible for recognizing it is there and acting accordingly.
Su Wei,
Thank you for those verses. I wonder if it was the way he dressed that attracted her to him or something else. -
Hi, HCL!!
Although the Scriptures do not say, so our
speculation is not worth the effort to write it, I
would suggest that he had nothing to do with it,
but her own evil thoughts had eveything to do with
it. She needed to take care of herself, rather than
look upon him as an object, but she was not into
discipline. -
Hi, HCL!
I guess we can't tell what Joseph was wearing. I think we can guess he was physically attractive. But the point was that women DO lust too. -
Su Wei,
I agree that women do lust too. When I first saw my husband I was attracted to him because of his station in life. My eyes saw him and I thought, now there is a well educated, employed man. Now, if he had been in speedos and shirtless I would have thought, "YUCK!" Just sharing my personal experience.
