My name is Mary and My hubby and I are the youth directors in our church. My question is.. What are some activities that your youth groups like to do? And what are you looking for in a youth group?

I have a question for the youth.

I just enjoy spending time with them. I go to a public school all week, with people who are unsaved, and some "slightly" rude, and it's a real blessing to be around a few teenagers who are sold out to God. We're a small group, but very close. We go on visitation together, have Bible study together, gather at church once a month just to fellowship.
We always liked playing simple games when we got together. In the summer we'd meet at the church after visitation to play volley ball, and in the winter, we'd play ping pong. {Both of which require cordination which I don't have! } We also would do balloon volley ball, sword drills, and Bible trivia.
We meet every Sunday morning for a lesson and then we discuss it.
I really just enjoy being with em!

The things i look for in a youth group are
- a chance to meet with others that understand and share my beliefs
- support for any problems
- a chance to learn more about god
- social time to catch up
I think there is some more i could think of but brain isnt wotking.
I will ask around at church for you.
Good question by the way. -
I'm not a youth ,but was a youth leader in a small church for seven years and we had a night once a month for the youth of the church to conduct their own services. they had some one lead the singing, give a devotional and then they had a bussiness meeting deciding what they would do with their funds and etc.I usually ordered pizza or we had a cook out and played christian games with them. They enjoyed the adults joining in with them in playing games. It was a lot of fun for everyone and we let them invite their friends which some became members of the church later. ;)

Abby, Izze, and BM,I want to thank you for your replies. You have given me some wonderful ideas. It's hard to know sometimes what the teens really, really want. We don't want to be liberal but yet we want to reach them. I may be picking your brains again soon lolol. I love to get ideas to help our youth group go on for God.

Oh Mary, YEs, Please, PLEASE don't go liberal! That is the very last thing the youth need. I got to thinking about what you posted, and I'll one thing more. The most important thing.
The youth need good, solid, Bible preaching. That is definatly the most important. IT is still the way to reach souls. I didn't get saved in a church service, but it was there I was convicted of my sins, and the Holy SPirit started getting to me, and after my salvation, it was were I got the foundation of my faith and convictions.
Instill in them Bible truth. That is the greatest thing ya'll could ever give them.

You know Abby, when I first read your posts I would have never known that you were a teenager. Your maturity and love in the Lord is so precious. Yes, you have a brain and it sounds like you have a great head on your shoulder too/. lol

Yeap Mary, I'm getting soooooo old! To think,...I'll be 15 in May! :D ;)
Just last night everyone was picking at me about my appearance and how everyone thinks I'm older. Imagine my immese shock to go to a little leauge game, be approached by one of my dad's old friends, and him ask if "this one" {referring to me} was his girlfriend. As politly as I could without sounding extremly shocked explained that I was his daughter! I tell ya...Some days!
~Abby -
I would like to say a big AMEN to Abby,(even if I am a woman) I wish all of us adults were as spiritual as you are.Bless you for letting the Lord use you at a young age.
Just think of all the rewards you will have some day. -
I would say a youth minister who is willing to go deep into the Word!
-
BM do you have ANY idea how I struggle daily just to stay right with the Lord?! OH me, if only you knew! Some days I just want to scream! Somedays I still find it hard to believe the Lord loves me, Him being so perfect, and me being one of the biggest sinners He could have saved! But I'll tell ya, if the Lord can save me, it's proof He can save ANYONE!

I know where your coming from Abby, The closer you grow to Jesus the easier it gets,so hang in there.
-
Abby, you made a comment how you wonder how Jesus could love you. You know Abby, I think that is one of satans most used strong holds against Christians. I struggle with this myself and struggle daily with serving Him. Satan likes to keep us defeated and he will if we let him. Don't ever, ever, stray from the Lord. What a testimony you have. What a testimony the rest of these teens have. What a joy to see you all so young serving Christ. I wish I could go back and change that in my life.

Mary
