I Need Advice. Please Pray for My Father

Good afternoon. I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, so I just went with the General Baptist board. I am grateful for being able to find fellowship in this site, and I feel that I am open to ask the questions that I have been thinking of for so long. I know that none of you know me personally, so none of you can truly assess my situation for yourselves, however I feel that I am in great need of advice and support at the moment. I will try to give a well-enough explanation of what's going, but I will refrain from giving names for protection's sake.

I'm a senior in college, and as of right now my father and I are all that is left of my once family of 4. My mother passed away almost 10 years ago and my little sister ran off to live with her boyfriend at the age of 18. My dad and I have been struggling to get by on our own, but we have managed so far. My dad finally managed to get back to work after taking care of me and my sister for almost 10 years, and he now works nights. When I'm not in school, I try to keep the house as clean as possible and I try to cook my dad meals whenever I can, because I know he's trying hard and I want to help however I can.

These past few weeks have been difficult, however, as my dad recently had to go to the hospital and was diagnosed with diverticulitis. They had him on two strong antibiotics for a little more than a week, and I made sure to keep them all timed so my dad took them all when he was supposed to. He hasn't been faring well, but he is getting a little better. I've been trying to help out by running to get groceries and his prescriptions, just whatever I can to keep things going. Recently I even did an overhaul of the basement (it was a disaster area) because we've had that on our to-do list for some time. If there's anything that I can do to make things easier, we might have a chance of getting through this.

But recently my dad has been getting very depressed. I'm talking about waking up at noon, staying up for an hour, and then going back to bed. According to him, it's so he can get his rest for work, but I'm starting to have my doubts. More and more I find myself sitting upstairs in my room while he sleeps downstairs on the couch, so I don't disturb him. We were supposed to go to the bank today so he could deposit his paychecks and maybe do some grocery shopping, but he changed his mind. He wouldn't let me go do the shopping, because apparently it's unfair to make me pay for groceries. I honestly don't have a problem with buying groceries, at least I can do something to help out. He's been having reservations recently about me driving anywhere, and I'm not sure why. We're starting to put stuff off and I can feel us slipping further and further into disrepair, so to speak. It seems like we're just barely managing to get by. I know that the major reason that my dad has been down recently is because we don't have health insurance and trying to get back on Medicaid is getting us nowhere. But I just don't seem to know what it is I can do to make things better at this point.

Not being able to help keep things going is making me feel useless, although it may be selfish to be worrying about my feelings right now. I'm not the one having health issues, after all. But it's starting to take a toll on me, that much I have to admit. I've been trying to keep my emotions in check, and giving it to the Lord seems to be all I can do. But sitting around and not being able to help out in any way still hurts. I hope some of you can perhaps offer me some advice on the matter, and even though none of you know me I ask you to please keep my father in your prayers. He's had it pretty rough, and doesn't deserve all that's happening to him. Thank you all in advance for your taking the time to read this post, I know it's very long. But thank you, and have a nice day.
